March to Demand the Right to Protest at the RNC - This Saturday March 1, 11 am at the State Capitol
Organizers applied for permits over a year ago to hold an anti-war rally and march in downtown St. Paul on Sept 1 - the first day of the RNC. St. Paul officials have yet to grant permits and have chosen to focus their attention elsewhere. Last week the Star Tribune revealed new "guidelines" they will use when infiltrating activist groups and the St. Paul PD recently ordered 230 more Taser weapons - enough for every officer on the force. They insist these politicies have nothing to do with the RNC but the timing clearly indicates a connection. Join members of the "Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War" to demand permits for a peaceful protest on Sept 1 and stand up for our 1st ammendment rights. On Saturday, we'll march from the Capitol to the Xcel Center and back to the Capitol again, the same route we hope to take on 9/1. This will be a permitted demonstration. A fundraiser for the local chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War will follow at the Black Dog Cafe.
