Seeking tips on things to see & places to visit in Northern MN
We'll be heading to the Walker/Leech Lake area for a week in mid June. The water may be too cold (or still frozen :scared: ) to go swimming or tubing, who knows if the fish will be biting at that time, and there is probably a good chance it will rain a bunch... so, I'm looking for alternatives to keep us busy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

:hi:

1. Bog Walk at Lake Bemidji State Park and the Lost Forty

Also, find the Lost Forty in the Chippewa National Forest north of Bemidji:

Both are a little ways north of Walker--get yourself a Minnesota atlas and take the back roads!

3. Take a hike then get lost, eh?

We'll have to head up to the Bemidji area for a day... back roads all the way, baby!

Thanks for the links, Minnesota Raindog.

Do you think that the morels might still be popping after June 13?
A skillet of shrooms sizzling next to a skillet of crappie fillets is almost too good to even imagine, slurp!

2. Lake Itasca is worth checking out
Lots of small town life around the Park Rapids and Detroit Lakes area. Look for any zorbaz resturants on the lake, I think both PR and DL have them.

4. Crossing the Mississippi Headwaters...
I did it as a kid and will enjoy snapping a few photos of my 12 yr old wading across this summer!

Zorbaz looks like a great pit stop for hungry waderz! B-)

Thanks CatholicEdHead!

5. There is good fishing on Leech Lake that time of year...
I wish I could think of all the great things to do in that area, but short of snowmobiling, I have not been there in the summer in a very long time.

8. If you're looking for good Mexican food
I suggest Companaro's in Dorset - about 20 miles from Walker, but it's on the way to Itasca.
