Anyone else catch last night's propaganda from WCCO news?
They teased the story about pukes accusing Dayton of mistreating his dogs; mentioned the accusation about half a dozen times before once -- briefly -- mentioning that the dogs were in the car in the shade with the windows open and Dayton had an aide go turn on the AC for them.

But that wasn't enough. Then they cut directly to a bit about why negative campaigning was a GOOD THING with a five-second sound-byte of some woman I've never heard of saying that it works, provides info to the voters, and we should all really, really like it. (:banghead:)

Some of the most blatant propaganda I've seen on non-cable.

Wanted to have my stomach pumped after they shoved all that down my throat.

1. Sorry, I missed it.
Sounds like something KSTP would put on.

2. I don't watch TV news at all any more. It's more tabloid exploitation than news.

3. I don't normally, either.
But the teaser got me wondering how they were going to slant the story.

And as far as I'm concerned, it was pretty damned slanted.

A week or two ago, the same bunch did a 'Good Question' bit on why the Mormons were advertising. The whole piece was about how that was perfectly normal. No mention at all about Prop 8 damage control.

8. I had that same question as to why Mormons were advertising
so heavily now.

I think the negative ad that the repubs are running against Dayton is ridiculous. There is NOTHING positive to say about their own candidate so they can only go negative? That tells you all you need to know about Emmer.

4. I didn't like the report and thought it was over the top
and certainly has nothing to do with the election. But I was surprised Dayton had his dogs along on such a hot day - unless this was an unplanned stop. On a day like yesterday no one, human or canine, is going to be comfortable in a car even in the shade with the windows open (though yesterday it wasn't comfortable outside even when not in a car).

He's had those dogs for a number of years now and I'm guessing they get the best of care and this was just the sort of slip up any of us can make.

I gathered in the report that this was "uncovered" by someone who is following Dayton around with a video camera waiting for a "Macaca" moment. I hope someone is doing the same with Emmer - we're bound to see something way more telling from him.

7. That made me bang my head against the wall.
Edited on Fri Aug-13-10 09:08 PM by dflprincess
the woman who said that is an assistant Political Science professor at the U and the actual quote was "Negative ads work, negative ads are memorable and negative ads provide information to voters."

We've know for years that they work and the they stick in people's minds, but she's really pushing it to claim they provide any information - unless distortion and lies are now considered information.

I tried watching the debate between Dayton, Emmer & Horner tonight on Almanac but I react to Emmer like I did to Bush - I can hardly stand to look at him, much less listen to anything he had to say... I did watch long enough to hear him deny that anything Pawlenty did or that he would do has anything to do with property taxes going up. Apparently the cities that lost state aid didn't really need to fund their police and public works departments.

:banghead:

13. Emmer and Horner take advantage of Dayton's speech impediment. They are truly
asses. Emmer is a big blow bag and Horner's voice reminds me of Palin's.
WCCO has lost and is losing their best people. I quit watching them as I have no stomach for their stupidity and propaganda as of late.

12. I thought it must have been a quick stop but Mark should leave the dogs in
with a pet-sitter at certain times. I actually am worried someone would hurt his dogs.

14. I had never even thought of someone hurting the dogs
but now that you mention it, that would be a concern as twisted as some of the right wing nuts are.

I agree, it had to be a quick stop or was suppose to be and maybe started to go longer than he thought it would. It would just be out of character for Mark to be unconcerned with his dogs' well being and what they caught him doing was asking someone to check on them & turn the AC on.

6. I would criticize 'CCO
They have done some good work reality checking Bachmann's crazy claims. They are about the only ones to do so.

10. What do you expect?
They are in the advertising business not the news business. Political campaigns are like a mother lode of revenue so the hotter the contest the more they reap. So they walk the line of trying to please everyone while protecting their conservative bias. But then I'm an old and crusty unashamed socialist and don't pay much attention to the bourgeoisie press.

15. Now last night, FOX 9 (I know, I know) did a bit on Emmer's campaign manager
It included police dash-cam of the guy trying to walk a straight line.

It included the fact that he was at an Emmer event that day.

All seemed pretty straight-forward.

Then they bring on a guy from Hamline and ask, "So is this a story that will hurt Emmer or will it be gone by tomorrow?"

Always have to get an "expert" in there to tell all of us what we should think about the news we've just heard.

Spin, spin, spin, spin ...

16. KARE-11 reported it as well, but mentioned NOTHING about his position...
in Emmer's campaign. Only that he was a state rep and also in foreclosure. WTF does that have to do with his crime? Are we to feel sorry for him?

17. I'm sure the Hamline "expert" was asshat David Schultz
He's the same guy who described calling out Michele Bachmann on her lies as proof that the 6th CD campaign is "getting nasty." I guess political "reporter" only have room for one name in the Rolodex for ANALysts.
