It ain't the thrill that'll get ya when you get yer picture on the cover
of the Rolling Stone but, damn, it's the LA Times and I'll take it!

Thanks to Truthout for reprinting the piece and including it in their email alerts so more will see. Folks, if you can spare some cash, Truthout is a good site to remember.

Bozeman, Mont. - A huge outfitting store on the edge of this mountain-ringed town should be a conservative bastion: The ranchers and farmers who come to shop tend to be reliable Republicans.

But here at Murdoch's Ranch and Home Supply - amid the calf pens, muck buckets and bags of horse feed - there are signs of trouble for the GOP. And that could be bad news for the party from coast to coast.

Jack Bolender, a retiree who voted for three-term Sen. Conrad Burns because the Republican delivered mounds of federal aid to Montana, said he was deserting the incumbent in the state's November election. Allegations that Burns was cozy with Jack Abramoff, the lobbyist central to a wide-ranging corruption scandal in Washington, have Bolender steamed.

"I appreciate what brought to the state, but at what cost?" Bolender said one cold afternoon outside Murdoch's. "We seem to be selling out to the special interests."

Yessss! legs... love legs!

And I would like to remind all that Conrad offered to 'return the money', not by giving it to the Abramoff clients that gave it to them, but by giving it to some other group. How the hell is that "returning" it, Conrad?

The group he offered it to turned him down, much to their credit. While a very worthy group, they had one small problem. Turns out their one and only registered lobbyist is a former Burns legislative aide! Now, doesn't that open up some questions and possibilities? The leaders of the tribal council involved thought so too and declined the offer.

Hey, Conrad: The boys here abouts are talking trash about ya! They are not slinging mud or bull shit. They are talking the truth. And they are, to a one, registered Republicans. T'aint me, a lonely DEM in this place, doing the damage to you and whoopin ya on the character issue! I try to do what I can, but I am only one woman screaming in a red wilderness. What is beating you, Conrad, is what YOU HAVE DONE!

They're talking tar, boy! Tar and feathers! They are ready to trade in your seniority for someone who knows right from wrong.

::havocmom wanders off singing:: ...gonna get five copies for my mother...
