He has filed paperwork and will have the party's backing in next year's primary. Daskas is 40, currently the lead homicide prosecutor in Clark County. He was supposedly the 4th choice after Dina Titus, Rory Reid and Richard Perkins declined to challenge sleazy Jon Porter.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/sun/2007/sep/19/566625922.htmlI'm familiar with Daskas only through the Ted Binion murder retrial, which is the only homicide case he has lost. My impression was Daskas was very competent and articulate with excellent thought process and choice of words. He used forceful and clever phrasing while challenging defendant Rick Tabish, but was not animated or memorable enough, unlike the successful prosecutors David Wall and David Roger in the original trial.
Daskas is a young looking 40 and in court he appeared thin, certainly thinner than recent pictures I've seen, although the trial was nearly 3 years ago.
We are getting an early start in this race, unlike previous cycles. There have already been commercials attacking Porter, and previous nominees like Tessa Hafen didn't begin their campaign until early of election year. Daskas plans to quit his prosecutor role after a major case in October, to begin campaigning full time. Tessa Hafen's campaign manager from 2006 will run Daskas' campaign.
