Lincoln County is a bastion of the GOP but this takes the (chocolate) cake. Following is a letter to the editor of the Ruidoso News last week. (Note the headline says "Democrat group," a talking point of Limbaugh, Beck and other Repubs.)

Dear Mayor Nunley and Village Council Members: As you know, our local community festival, Oktoberfest, is managed by a non-profit enterprise operating as the Special Events Resource Group (SERG), run by Mark Doth of Grindstone Graphics.
A few days ago, a newly formed local chapter of the New Mexico Democratic Women de-cided to investigate the possibility of selling chocolate at Oktoberfest. Their vice-president, Judy Foulds, phoned Mark Doth, asking about the booth situation for next year. Here is her transcription of that conversation:
Just talked on the phone to Mark Doth, of Grindstone Graphics, and Spec. Events Resource Group that puts on Octoberfest to ask him what we had to do to get a booth in next yrs. event as it was prob. too late for this yr. and he said, not necessarily ... what was out (sic) product. I said Chocolate items and he said, yum, I like cholcolate (sic) and what is the group? I said Dem. Women. He said, "I've had too much trouble with your group in the past and I won't even go there" and hung up on me. I called him back and said, you have not dealt with my group in the past as we have only existed for six months. He then says, "I hate everything the Dem. party stands for and I won't even consider it," and hangs up again.
When Ms. Foulds and other members of her group phoned the Ruidoso Chamber of Commerce to report the incident, they were told to file a formal written complaint and send it to the Chamber for his file and they will forward it to him to address. It will be up to him whether he wants to address these complaints. This seems an inordinately weak response to such an affront to our fellow community members. The chamber avoids confrontation; SERG avoids accountability; and the women of the Democratic Party are shut out, just as Mark Doth insisted that they would be.
I am very disturbed to find that my hometown overtly discriminates against its own citizens based on political affiliation, not even bothering with the convenient excuses of scheduling or booth availability. The insult is clear, for the Republicans have an Oktoberfest booth every year and I understand will be selling burgers this year.
