Urenco unveils (Uranium) enrichment plant in New Mexico
And so it begins again...we didn't learn for the last time the Uranium boom hit this state (see Rio Puerco spill near Church Rock)(http://www.sric.org/uranium/PUERCO92.html) (http://newmexicoindependent.com/31989/31989)

B/c of that spill the Colorado River still has 1,000 times the allowable level of alpha radiation. The river (and its tributaries) is the drinking water for Denver, Albuquerque, Phoenix, Tucson, L.A., San Diego and all small cities in between.

"EUNICE, N.M. Urenco, an international nuclear fuel company, unveiled a long awaited uranium enrichment plant at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday that attracted most of New Mexico’s bigwigs as well as dignitaries from all corners of the world.

Local and state officials lauded the $2 billion facility as an extraordinary accomplishment and a step in the right direction toward clean energy. The site’s opening came as British Petroleum continued its efforts to contain the nation’s worst-ever oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, a catastrophe that has emboldened officials who believe the country should work to reduce its dependence on oil.

"We are writing part of global history here," said Helmut Engelbrecht, CEO of Urenco Ltd.

Located along Highway 176 and just a stone’s throw from Waste Control Specialists’ low-level radioactive disposal site in Andrews County, the Urenco USA plant is the first of its kind in the country. (The plant had previously been known as the National Enrichment Facility but was renamed this year.)"

1. luckily there's no river in that area and already has
a large nuclear footprint. the waste is flying here fast and furious with WIPP just down the road and the Andrews facility that's literally a stone's throw from the Eunice facility

it's actually better work that in the oil and gas fields around here.

just glad they're also using the area to test brackish water algae ponds here too
