Elizabeth Dole says she'll seek re-election
U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole hit the campaign trail Friday intent on seeking re-election in 2008. Dole spoke at a Lenoir County GOP dinner Friday night, the first of a series of meetings with Republican groups and fundraising events she has planned for the coming weeks.

"I want to tell you tonight I am going to run for re-election to the United States Senate," Dole said, prompting a standing ovation from 250 people attending a Lincoln/Reagan Day barbecue dinner at Southwood Memorial Christian Church. "I am going to need your help as we rev up the campaign for 2008."

Dole has been the subject of rumors over the past year suggesting that, at age 70, she may not seek a second term. The rumors have been fed by a slow start in organizing her re-election effort.

Dole said she does not have to be reminded that this is a difficult time for Republicans, having spent the past two years as chairwoman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee when the GOP lost control of the Senate. She called it "the worst political environment in memory."

16. Conressman Miller, Congressman Etheridge, and one other person
is considering a race. Easley has said no, though he would be a very logical candidate. Cooper, Purdue, and Moore are running for governor.

24. I wish Easley would run
no chance of reconsidering. From what I have heard of him, he kind of makes up his own mind and isn't easily swayed. I would just love to have a senator in Liddy's place who had actually been to North Carolina for more than a few days in the last decade.

7. What has she done exactly to help the people of NC
since she has been in office? I can't recall much that she has done other than show up for photo-ops. I give her a thumbs up for mismanaging the GOP funding since it helped get Demo's in control of Congress again...

8. She got money for highway construction around Salisbury.
Yes, the city that she claims to be "home."

Other than that, she hasn't done much for her constituents- other than letting us have a democratic senator in the state north of us by mismanaging the NRSCC!

9. Mike McIntyre from the SE ?
I don't know where I heard this but thought someone said he was thinking about it. I know he is extremely popular here, I don't think anyone runs against him. The base probably won't like him because he has had some "bad" votes. To me though ANYONE is better than Dole.

17. Only because Dole is so terrible
would I consider voting for McIntyre. voted for the bankruptcy bill, repeal of the estate tax - voted against stem cell research... We need a local Lamont here in South Eastern NC.

21. Yes, and VoteVets will help him do it.
She is very vulnerable now after voting against Webb's amendment regarding troop rotation. Dole is not a friend of the military, and that will be pointed out.

23. She voted against troop withdrawal this week
She's a Bush Admin echo chamber and to defeat her she needs to be portrayed as such. The GOP as a whole is already distancing itself from the president. By Election '08, they will have broken into a dead sprint.

Dole has used the same "Stay the course" rhetoric and openly declared connections between Al Qaeda and Saddam's Iraq. These statements are still on her website.

25. Dole should end up where her namesake is.
On the Dole.

(i.e. she should be given the pink slip, dismissed, fired, indicted, sacked, made unemployed - Dole generally meaning someone who is unemployed and getting unemployment benefits).

Regrettably she'd get a Senator's pension if^H^H when she was unsuccessul in re-election, so Dole will get the Dole regardless.
