Women's Issues in Ohio
Based on the responses to one of my posts, "The State of Black Ohio," I thought maybe we should start a new thread. I had noticed an interesting report that the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus had published, and posted the link with a brief summary.

I went back to the ODP website this morning, to look for possible similar reports from the Democratic Women's Caucus, but both the Caucus (newly organized) and Federated Women are more focused on getting women elected (for the former) and supporting candidates that are pro-women/child/family (for the latter) on any number of issues..."issues" not delineated on the websites, that I can see.

DU'er mtnester provided this (very) relevant link:
http://www.policymattersohio.org/wagegap1.htm

And for a snapshot of national issues, one can look at NOW's (National Organization for Women) website:
http://www.now.org/

I'd be interested in further dialog.... Having personally experienced the effects of leaving the workforce to care for children, re-enter it "part-time," and then try to get back into a position at the level I was at before in my profession, for which I have two master's....it's been, well, impossible.

I tried to "do it all," at first, and realized that wasn't going to work, with the level of responsibility I had. Now that I'm looking for a paying job again, the economy is in shambles, and many job-seekers, across gender lines, are having a tough time of it.

1. Cynical reply....
I simply don't believe that ODP cares about women. I think the Party views women as "safe" and doesn't concern themselves with us. It's very disheartening and makes me feel very detached from the Party. I noticed in 2004 how much better men were treated. It keeps getting worse. :(

Also, I've sent a couple emails to the Democratic Women's Caucus, but I never received a reply. I just wanted to know how to join the group, if they had meetings, etc. I never even received a 'thanks for your interest' spam.

2. Yeah...the ODP is too busy chasing after
the white angry male (Reagan Dems) to be bothered with women. They'll waffle on abortion then sound real macho about guns.

If they just picked ONE issue that affects women...say childcare, and put that on their campaign platform...women would vote Democratic like crazy! Seriously, why not go back into the 1980's and dust off one of the campaign platforms about childcare and stomp it! Hell...go back to the Pug platforms of the '80's.

That's how far this Backlash has pushed women back. We're fighting just to stay alive if a pregnancy turned disasterous. Blackwell wants us dead. I'm fighting the same...no, really worse fights...than back in the '70's. These pug misogynists affect the Dems...the pugs ridicule the Dem men if they stand up for women...'oh, you're holding onto mama's apron strings, aren't ya?'

It's hideous...and the Dem men (not all) just don't seem to have the courage to stand up for women's rights.

Check out Women's Voices, Women Vote at www.wvwv.org or it could be .com
This shows that when vote, they vote for Dems....but the Dems have given them no reason to vote.
