Why is Taft at 19% in the polls?
To be that low, that means you have made a hell of a lot of enemies, and at 19% you must be alienating even many core Republicans.

So what has Bobby Taft done to piss off so many people? Anything specific?

I know that Taft is term limited out. I don't don't know who the Democratic nominee is going to be in 2006, but it would seem to me that his or her strategy should be to make the Republican's middle name Taft. "Kenneth Taft Blackwell", etc.

1. Might have been...
... those exposé photos of him sipping pond scum through a straw.... :)

Truthfully, it's the economy, mostly, I think. Ohio's hurting and has been hurting for a while. Cleveland is the fastest shrinking city in the US, in terms of employment, business investment and development. That sort of situation reverberates throughout the state and the region, and it's catching up to Taft.

10. Of course he's ugly
I mean his great grandpa couldn't fit in the fuckin bathtub (in the White House), so he built one that was 40 inches wide. That will allow King Fahd and Bush to bathe together (as if they don't already).

6. It is too bad that the State Senate and House don't get...
some of the blame. The repukes have been in control for too many years and the state has been headed for the dumpster since the repukes took over all branches of the government.

4. The better question, what has he done to warrant the 19%
This guy combined with his Secretary of State friend Blackwell are lower than pond scum.
Now couple that with living under the current regime in Washington and an election with some questions to be answered and all the ridiculous cuts in funding for schools and other state programs.
Ohio is the armpit of America right now and Taft is the culprit to much of it.
He has done nothing to protest the loss of jobs at NASA or the military closings.
The list can go on and on.

7. taft doesnt do shit
honestly, i think thats why. the man has no personality, and doesnt really do anything beyond the letter of his job; that alienates the people who didnt hate him already for what he's signed into law

9. Even the Repugs hate him because
He has raised taxes, several times. Increased the budget nearly 100%, for which CATO institution (a RW/Libertarian think thank) gave him a grade of "F". Also he took forever to sign concealed carry legislation after years of blocking it.

SO many P.O.ed Repugs that a Dem might just have a chance here.

12. Taft is a totally worthless Governor
What does he do except take up space in Ohio's Governor's Mansion and attend ribbon cutting ceremonies? That might work in a small town of 110 people, but over a state of 11 million, he's the wrong man for the job.

This is a time when Ohio needs real, high-profile leadership to carry the state from decay and crisis and into the 21st century. This state is long overdue for a real challenge and vision from the Democrats.
