Oregonlive coverage of the KGW CD1 debate (embeds video)

Democrats vying to replace David Wu play nice in Tuesday's debate

Anyone looking for clear differences among the three Democratic candidates in the race to replace former Oregon Rep. David Wu probably came away disappointed after Tuesday's televised debate.

Brad Witt, Brad Avakian and Suzanne Bonamici largely -- if not completely -- agreed on nearly every issue that came up during the hour-long questioning on everything from foreign policy to how they'd keep their sanity if elected.

Given the opportunity to even lightly criticize one another, they mostly passed.

They all said they support the "occupy" protesters, and they want to quickly bring troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Each said their main focus would be on creating jobs by pushing for some kind of massive, nationwide construction program. Each said they would pay for the program by raising taxes on wealthy Americans.

1. Thanks for the link to that, I think I've changed my mind. (and my ballot arrived yesterday)...
I was initially leaning towards Bonamici, but after watching the debate, I felt it was Avakian who owned it, and who was rarely caught without the facts.

There indeed was not much substantive difference between them, and ANY of them would be an improvement over Wu, but it's Avakian that I think has the best chance to beat Cornilles in the general. (and make no mistake, Cornilles will be tough. He's smart, hella rich, and comes across well on TV.)

I have a real fear that OR-1st could turn red, which would just fucking break my heart. I think Brad Avakian is our best hope to prevent that.
