South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called the media too negative after The Associated Press raised questions about her claim that 10,000 jobs had been created in the state since she took office in January.

Haley complained during a Cabinet meeting Tuesday the media doesn't want to report anything positive about her administration. She says regardless of the exact number of jobs, other governors are jealous.

An AP analysis of the 10,000 jobs cited by Haley revealed some of them were announced before she took office and others won't be filled for years. She also included hundreds of jobs created in a business deal that she opposed.

After repeated questioning by the AP, the state changed its jobs total several times before finally lowering it to about 9,000 positions, including 4,000 positions at Walmart stores.

1. It's about time

Sanford's Commerce Secretary, Joe Taylor, was famous for cooking the books. As his term was drawing to a close, he told several companies that they likely would not get the incentives that had been negotiated unless they announced by the end of the year. Several of those projects never received financing and they never happened, but they are still on the books as part of Taylor's 'record-breaking' year. Anyone stupid enough to think you could set a record for job creation in the economy we had in 2010 would be likely to believe Haley's similar lies.
4,000 of the 10,000 jobs she said she had brought in came from a statement a WalMart executive made, saying that they planned to build dozens of new outlets over the next 5 years that could create at least 4,000 jobs. Nobody anywhere has ever counted retail jobs as part of their economic development numbers.

I saw another article that said it was more like 9000. And, she's trying to take credit for the Amazon.com deal that she opposed. She's a piece of work, ain't she?

3. As I was driving to work

in Columbia, SC this morning, NPR mentioned that SC has one of the highest unemploymnet rates nationaly at something over 10%.....Great job creation Nikki!

what they were mentioning is that SC had the biggest increase, from 10 to 10.5% last month.
