Cars driving in daylight with the lights on in Columbia SC

Hi.

II go three days a week to physical therapy. Same route, week after week.

Today, I noted that about 50% of the cars driving on the route I take were driving with their headlights on. I have noted this peculiarity in the past. I have a feeling that it is indicative of something either religious, military or political.

The skies are clear. The sun is shining. It was one o'clock in the afternoon. I have not seen this happen during the month or so I have been on this therapy course, and I'm wondering if anyone knows what is the significance of driving with the lights on, on November 21, 2011. If anyone knows, would they please tell me.


I have a feeling that it is either in support of, or protest of, something. Anyone have a clue?

1. No ritual, just safety. I live in Cola. Drizzled in the am.

Or you m ay be driving near the highway loop. I and many drive with lights on highway and probably just leave them on. NOthing notorious.

Thank you for your response. It may be from the earlier drizzle. I wasn't aware of the earlier weather, so it seemed peculiar to me. Things like that have happened before, and I've later found out it was a political or economic support or protest that was being demonstrated.

3. Here in Washington, they encourage everyone to always drive with lights on.

So some people in SC might be from parts of the country where this is routine.

Using dipped headlights makes it easier to see oncoming vehicles in the distance and prevents daytime head-on and front-corner collisions.

4. Daytime running lights are standard on some brands of cars.

All cars made by GM have them. Lots of people drive Chevys around here. Volvos are another that comes to mind.
