By ED BARK / The Dallas Morning News

Glenn Mitchell, a radio talk mainstay at KERA-FM (90.1) since the station signed on in 1974, died in his sleep at his Dallas home early Sunday morning. He was 55.

Mr. Mitchell had missed Friday's scheduled edition of The Glenn Mitchell Show after not feeling well for the past week. The cause of his death has not yet been determined, but "he had a history of heart-related issues" and also had undergone heart bypass surgery, the station said in a prepared statement.

"We're all pretty devastated right now," KERA radio program director Abby Goldstein said Sunday. "This place was way more than a job to Glenn ... I don't think I've ever worked with anyone more driven and more dedicated than Glenn, or more knowledgeable about such an unbelievable variety of subjects."

KERA radio will air a memorial in honor of Mr. Mitchell today from noon to 1 p.m. Listeners are encouraged to call in.

-What a void his passing will leave.

1. Mr. Mitchell...
... hosted a really good noon talk show on KERA.

He had guests from all over the map, and asked them good questions.

The only time I ever heard Mr. Mitchell get ruffled was when a caller 'accused' him of being a "liberal". :)

Listening to him deal with guests of all political persuasions, you'd never get a clue as to what his views were. Really, that is the way a good talk show should work.

Yes, KERA will have a hard time filling his shoes.

2. He will be missed.
I heard this on the news this morning and almost cried in my coffee. I will especially miss his Friday shows and the Christmas Blockbuster.

8. So Sorry To Hear This
We lived in Dallas in the late '70's and really enjoyed Glenn Mitchell and KERA.

Moved to the Houston area in 1980; never have encountered a radio personality anywhere close to his quality since. A true loss.
