Texas Democratic Party Road Trip Fundraiser
The Texas Democratic Party has hit the ground running in 2006 and has launched the TDP Road Trip, which starts in Austin and ends in your neighborhood.

What’s the TDP Road Trip? It’s our effort to reach out to Democrats across Texas – whether it’s sending out emails to voters about Republicans wasting your tax dollars to hire DeLay cronies or sending our field staff to all corners of the state or making an updated voter file available nine months before the election.

More than ever before, the Texas Democratic Party is working in every part of the state and focusing on helping Democrats win office at every level.

In one week alone, TDP field staff traveled out west training Precinct Chairs with the El Paso Democratic Party, taught candidates and activists in Fort Worth on the best ways to use the voter file, and met with local candidates at a county party event in Lubbock. It would take too long to actually list every city, town and county that our staff have been in the last two months.

Our field staff are only one part of the TDP’s efforts to empower Democrats across the state. Keep an eye on the TDP website for the new 2006 Grassroots Handbook that will help you organize your neighborhood and make a real difference for Democrats in November. Grassroots Handbook

Your contribution of $25, $50, $100 or even more will help fund regional candidate & activist trainings this spring and summer!

If you’re in Austin, you can join us for our first "Road Trip" event on Wednesday, February 22nd. Ticket prices start as low as $50 per person (and only $35 for TDP Sustaining Members), so we hope to see all of friends there. For those of you who don’t live in Austin, don’t despair – we’ll be visiting your area soon, or you can always show your support by contributing online today!

An investment in the TDP is an investment in a Democratic Texas! The TDP is running an efficient operation – our budget is actually in the "black" – and we’re making good use of every penny we raise.

You can always be sure your contributions will be used to elect Democrats, to help us re-build our infrastructure, assemble a statewide network of activists and communicate with voters and the media instead of paying off debt or legal fees.

If you need more reasons to support the Texas Democratic Party, here’s one - the Republicans run their party just like they run our government – spending money they don’t have. As the Dallas Morning News reported, "Republicans had almost $130,000 in cash, but listed bills and debts of $277,000." For the first time in years, the TDP is in better financial shape than the Republicans heading into an election season.

Make no mistake about it – their corporate and special-interest friends will be writing checks to erase their debt, so we need YOUR support to maintain our financial edge.

2006 is going to be an exciting year for Democrats…and with your help, we’ll build a stronger Democratic Party.

Very truly yours,
Charles E. Soechting

1. Darn - wish it was on the 24th
Sounds like it might be fun, but I won't be in town until the 24th for the Texas Democratic Women's annual convention (Feb 24-26). Oh well, maybe they'll make it down to Corpus Christi.

2. Make sure you call them and suggest that TexasLinda
I'm sure they haven't scheduled all the stops on the tour.

And by the way I'll be going to the TDW conference here in Feb. Maybe we'll get to meet. I joined last year. Today at our Capitol Area Democratic Women's lunch, Donna Beth told us that thanks to the local chapters, the TDW PAC was able to give Donna Howard and Katy Hubener $1,500 each for these special election House races. Great news!

3. Doggoneit! That's the same day as the Travis Dems Exec. Meeting.
Maybe it will be a short meeting so we can make the fundraiser. I'm sure Chris will want to be there.

4. Oh I'm sure he has to be there
At least to ake an appearance, and I'm sure the usual suspects will be there as well. The whole lot of candidates running as well as our usual activists.

5. Donna Howard is going to be there
Bet you wanna go now, don't you?

Democrat Donna Howard Wins by a Huge Margin

This week’s resounding victory by Democrat Donna Howard in the special election in HD-48 proves that voters are just plain tired of the failed policies and corruption of Republican leaders in Texas. For the last 6 years, this district was represented by a Republican, who abandoned his constituents for a high-paying lobbying job. But this year, our Democrat won with almost 58% of the vote, despite being outspent by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Voters in District 48 overwhelmingly chose Donna Howard over Perry-backed, scandal-plagued Ben Bentzin because they know she will be a strong advocate for improving our children’s schools and providing meaningful property tax relief, rather than yet another Craddick crony in the legislature.

We’re proud to announce that Donna is going to be our special guest at the TDP’s first Road Trip Fundraiser in Austin on Wednesday, February 22nd. Join us to show your support and meet our newest Democratic state representative!

Let’s Keep the Democrats Winning Streak Alive!

Help elect another great Democrat to the Texas House – volunteer for Katy Hubener! This special election will be a fight to the finish and EVERY vote will count. Each supporter makes a huge difference, whether it be knocking on doors, making phone calls or greeting voters at the polls.

Your help will make the difference between sending a true representative who cares about North Texas to Austin or just another Craddick crony. Early voting has already begun, so the Hubener campaign needs volunteers every day from now through election day on Tuesday, February 28th.

Hubener Campaign Headquarters:
United Areospace Workers #848 Hall
2218 E. Main Street, Grand Prairie

To RSVP or if you have any questions, please call 972-282-9301 and ask for Gia Irlando or David Wilkins.

TDP Road Trip Continues On…

The field staff at the Texas Democratic Party are working every day to help our Democratic candidates, county parties and precinct chairs create the best programs to turn out fellow Democrats on election day and identify new Democratic voters. Whether conducting trainings across the state or spending all day on the phones working with activists, the TDP is committed to building our party from the ground up.

If your county, Senate district or group wants to host a local training, please contact Sondra Haltom, TDP Statewide Field Director, at (512) 478-9800 or shaltom@txdemocrats.org.

We’re also planning regional candidate and activist trainings and other events after next month’s primary and will let you know the schedule as soon as it’s set. And keep checking our website where the 2006 Grassroots Handbook and TDP Rules will be posted later this week.

And we’re not just in the field…the TDP is building a stronger communications program with traditional media, as well as voter outreach through emails and online information. Our new top-of-the-line online voter file is providing Democrats the tools they need to win elections. We’re working on a lot of projects right now and look forward to telling you more over the next few months.

But we can’t do anything without the support of Democrats across Texas. As we told you last week, “an investment in the TDP is an investment in a Democratic Texas.” With your support, we will build a stronger state party and better communicate our positive Democratic message to Texas voters. Donna Howard’s victory has shown us that with enough resources, Democrats will win!

Quick Notes

Please forward this email to your Democratic friends & family! If you want to sign-up to receive emails directly from the TDP, send your request to yellowdog@txdemocrats.org.

Don’t forget to add the Texas State Democratic Convention to your calendars. From June 8th – 10 th, thousands of Democrats will gather in Fort Worth for good, old-fashioned campaign speeches from our candidates, training sessions for activists and just the opportunity to spend a weekend with fellow Democrats planning for the final months until the election. All Democrats are welcome to attend!

To find-out about local Democratic events in your area, check out the TDP Calendar. If your Democratic group or campaign is hosting an event, please add it to our calendar by clicking on "Suggest an Event", which is located at the bottom of every calendar page. Events are normally posted within 24 hours.

The Texas redistricting fight continues and oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court are only a few weeks away. The TDP has put together a Redistricting Info Center with news about the current case as well as some background info.

Very truly yours,
Charles E. Soechting
