The economic stimulus package failed in the Senate by 2 Republican votes. The house passed a bill totaling $161 billion and the senate added another $40 billion in rebates to the elderly, veterans and some unemployed. Sounds like a lot of money, right? Not so much in the scheme of things.
Bush just asked for a $3 trillion budget for next year. The stimulus package as passed by the House is 5% of that budget. The $40 billion the Senate wanted to add to help old people, veterans and the unemployed is 1% of the Budget.
Over 1% of Bush’s budget two Republicans defeated the stimulus package.
First they kill the SCHIP program to insure children, now they kill the rebate you were supposed to get.
Your representative, Joe Barton, voted to kill SCHIP in the House. Your senator, John Cornyn voted to kill it in the Senate.
Joe Barton voted against your tax rebate in the house. Both Texas Senators, Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, voted to kill your tax rebate. Their two votes cost you between $600 and $1200.
Want more of this? Vote for Cornyn and Barton in November. If want a change, vote for Rick Noreiga and Steve Bush, both Democrats running against the incumbents.
