Texas State Board of Education Resolution - please consider submitting this on Tuesday
A RESOLUTION
CALLING FOR THE TEXAS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION
TO EMBRACE ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE


WHEREAS,
establishing policy and providing leadership for the Texas public school system are the responsibilities of the Texas State Board of Education; and

WHEREAS, by adopting policies and setting standards for educational programs, the State Board of Education provides the direction necessary to enable Texas public schools to prepare today’s schoolchildren for a successful future; and

WHEREAS, the State Board of Education is directly responsible for the educational curricula used by over 7,900 campuses instructing and serving over 4,500,000 public schoolchildren statewide; and

WHEREAS, a well-rounded education that includes demonstrated competency in the physical and chemical sciences ought to be the most reliable worthiness of an individual to the exercise and honors of shaping the education of the Texas workforce of tomorrow;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Texas Democratic Party shall call upon our Democratic Congressional delegation to advocate and support legislation mandating that no person shall be considered a legal candidate for membership in the Texas State Board of Education, or fit associate in consultation, whose expressed motivations for selecting educational curricula and teaching materials for Texas public schoolchildren are based on an exclusive dogma, to the rejection of the accumulated experience of the scientific community, and of the aids actually furnished by anatomy, astronomy, genetics, geology, organic chemistry, physics, and physiology.

Why should our Congressional delegation be involved in setting the qualifications for a state board (laudable as your standards are)?

Particularly this part:

What do you mean by "aids" of content areas of science?
