What resolutions got passed at your Precinct Convention?
Here's one that passed at mine, although it came very close to being tabled:

A RESOLUTION
OPPOSING PARDON FOR PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH AND SEVERAL MEMBERS OF HIS ADMINISTRATION

WHEREAS,
in the conduct of the office of President of the United States, George Walker Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has planned, prepared, and conspired to commit crimes against the peace by leading the United States into an undeclared and aggressive war against Iraq in violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, the Nuremberg Charter, Judgment, and Principles, the Kellogg-Brand Pact, U.S. Army Field Manual 27-10 (1956), numerous other international treaties and agreements, and the Constitution of the United States, and

WHEREAS, in pursuit of an undeclared and aggressive war against Iraq, has committed the United States to acts of war without Congressional consent and contrary to the United Nations Charter and international law, and

WHEREAS, in pursuit of an undeclared and aggressive war against Iraq, George Walker Bush has acted in a manner contrary to his trust as President and subversive of constitutional government, to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States, and

WHEREAS, George Walker Bush, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office, and

WHEREAS, in pursuit of an undeclared and aggressive war against Iraq, George Walker Bush was knowingly and consciously rendered material and logistic aid and assistance by Richard Bruce Cheney, in the conduct of the office of Vice President of the United States, and

WHEREAS, Richard Bruce Cheney, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office, and

WHEREAS, in pursuit of an undeclared and aggressive war against Iraq, George Walker Bush was knowingly and consciously rendered material and logistic aid and assistance by Donald Henry Rumsfeld, in the conduct of the office of Secretary of Defense of the United States,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the nominee designated by the Democratic Party of the United States of America to run for the office of President of the United States in 2008 shall in no wise grant, issue, or offer any Presidential pardon or amnesty of any form to George Walker Bush, Richard Bruce Cheney, or Donald Henry Rumsfeld, on an individual basis or in any collective designation of the aforementioned persons.

1. That's great, Derby! So different than our precinct.
I personally resolved to never try to herd a bunch of clueless, impatient children around again. ;)

3. Resolution to abolish caucuses and rely on primaries
I was the permanent convention chair and told people that the caucus could entertain resolutions at the end. Someone came up with a resolution to abolish the Texas two step process and rely on primaries that passed

4. Someone introduced an abbreviated version of that at our precinct
It got tabled. Too many people argued that the caucus system gives committed Democrats a greater say in who represents them in the White House - it's not perfect, and it's damned frustrating at times, but in the end, in their estimation, the Texas Two-Step serves Democrats very well.

5. Our resolution passed
We got to this resolution at 9:30 and so everyone was pretty tired with the process. I did not care at that point because getting passed that resolution was the only thing need to adjourned the meeting. As it was, I did not get home to 10 pm because we had to complete some paper work and call in our results to the TDP

8. I never got a phone number to call in the results...
Our results are currently travelling to Austin via snail mail. I apologize for the delay in getting the final statewide tallies.

9. I also called my results into local party
I called the local party headquarters and gave them the results over the phone. The person at headquarters was espicially happy about turnout.

I also gave the results to the field rep for the Obama campaign in my area. He wanted the vote numbers in particular in addition to the delegats

Or at least it should have been. You can also submit via the TDP website http://www.txdemocrats.org/page/s/pcresults.

I'm going to send you a pm with the number and code.

12. Sonia, wasn't the code supposed to be unique for each precinct?

I thought it was a general code for all PCTs.

6. I just speed-read through the captions and we had a motion to pass them all
It was getting close to 11 PM and everyone was exhausted. I did clarify that the one titled "China" was about the country, not the dishware.

However, McBlogger tells me he did introduce and get his precinct to pass my resolution:

WHEREAS the cuisine known as "Tex-Mex" is one of the crowning cultural glories of the Great State of Texas, and

WHEREAS the provision of chips and salsa is an essential part of the ambiance of the Tex-Mex restaurant dining experience, encouraging conviviality and promoting the consumption of refreshing beverages, and

WHEREAS there has been a trend at some establishments to charge for chips and salsa, thereby eroding our traditions and promoting a fast-food mentality among patrons;

NOW, THEREFOR BE IT RESOLVED that the State of Texas recognize the inalienable right of access to free chips and salsa for patrons of Tex-Mex restaurants, and

THEREFOR BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Texas Legislature be directed to support this right by appropriate legislation.

10. We passed 42 resolutions on almost everything
We did kill two of them that were anti-choice. But other than that, we passed the whole lot of them in one vote.
We had everything from clean energy, renewables, recycling, ant-TTC, clean elections/campaign finance, abolishing the death penalty, universal health care to verified voter paper ballots.

If you really want to help some of these things pass, make sure you try to get yourself nominated to the resolution committee at your county and state conventions.

14. County Convention
What is the process to be elected to committees at the upcoming conventions? I took a lot of resolutions to the precinct conventions and want to make sure they continue going forward.

15. Within your SD at the county convention
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 03:30 PM by sonias
From the delegate pool who attend the convention, people are elected to each of the standing committees - platform, rules, resolutions, nominations, credentials. Trust me if you nominate yourself or ask someone to nominate you, you stand a very good chance of being elected to that committee. Each SD gets a specified number to serve on each committee at the convention. The nominations and credentials committee will be the ones with the most competition. You shouldn't have a problem getting onto the resolutions committee.

Just be aware that it is a very labor intensive committee, but if that's your interest, I'm sure you'll have fun and do good work.

All of the initial process is explained in the party rules, but how it goes at the SD convention is another matter. If you think about 40 resolutions on average from each precinct coming in to that committee, you have to work on approving or killing each of those resolutions that then get sent to the floor of the whole convention to pass or fail. And all of them will get an up or down vote individually from the floor. Plus others can also be introduced from the floor.

The Rules of the Democratic Party can be found here
http://www.txdemocrats.org/the_party/tdp_rules/

And you'll want the section on Party conventions
http://www.txdemocrats.org/the_party/article_iv_party_conventions

Good luck. If you're in SD25 I'll nominate you to serve.

16. i'm in 25
Were you at the PPC meeting a couple of weeks ago? I was there and had to leave before everything was over, and had some questions about some of the committees they were discussing too.

Anyway thanks for the info. I want to look into some of the other committees to see which I would like to serve on. :hi:

Glad you came out for that too
Yes I'm in the PPC too. We'll have a very large convention caucus at the State Convention too, be sure to come to that. You'll probably have to decide which committee you want to serve on, since they all meet pretty much at the same time. You can't serve on multiple ones very easily.

Just send me a private message if you want me to nominate you in SD25.
