Montgomery County delegate convention
was a tough fight.
I think that there was about 1700 - 1800 delegates there.
IT was an experience I shall not forget. My first foray into state/local
politics.....as an Obama delegate.
The Clinton side had lots of signs and balloons and stuff -
our side had just a few things....
Things started out pretty mild and boring but there were several
issues, the first was a challenge from the Clinton side about districting
that stalled the process about 3 to 4 hours....
Let's just say that things didn't run very smoothly......
I was appalled at how rude, ugly and disrespectful several of the delegates were -
As the night wore on people became surly and rude -
calling names, shouting and in general bad behavior.... the sargent at arms were
called and we needed them....

Most of the officials were "kids" in their mid-20's
I thought that things could have gone more smoothly, but they did
the best that they could and I thank them.
I saw an old 80 something year old lady call out the officials
she was pissed it was taking so long...."these kids are as sharp as
a bowl of oatmeal!!!!"
It wasn't quite chaos, but getting there..... I was on my last nerve
and ready to walk out, but waited for the last vote of the night.
which was for a Hillary alternate delegate.

As a newly just elected state delegate a Mr. Williams, called for point of order and
made the announcement that called for a vote to relinquish his newly elected
position for an elderly blind man who had been at the proceeding ALL day.
He was a Hillary supporter, and had his helper lead him through the crowds all
day.... my guess was he had to have been maybe 85 years old....

It restored my faith and I made my way home.......
anyway - it restored me when this man was given a chance to go to State.

1. Very nice story
Lots of unselfish acts going on everywhere, on both sides.

:applause:

2. That is good to hear
Something positive happening amidst all of the craziness...

The delegate convention sounds like it was an interesting experience, at the least!

I'm not too far from you, in Walker County. (I had to early vote in my home county where I'm still registered, so I didn't get to caucus- although I really wanted to.) It's good to see another DUer from this part of the state. :hi:

3. thanks, it was a great feeling to be in a room with 1700ish Dems
you know?

there is a lot of emotion out there....

still a lot of Democrats feeling like they can't "reveal" their
party lines, which I find depressing...

I am now in my "F/U fifties" and don't feel the need to bite my tongue
any longer.... if people can't handle my bumper stickers, T-shirts and
big mouth, then that is their freakin' problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we don't speak up now, with everything that has gone on over the last 7 years
then we never will......

4. I didn't get to go, but there is one thing I can tell you
The last such convention garnered about 100 people in attendance. So this turnout is just simply GRAND! I've been in MoCo for 15 years now, and this is the first year I don't feel like the lonely Dem. With the population growth have come many people who have surprised the hell out of the entrenched repubs. Last election we were 78% straight ticket repub. I think we are going to have a much better set of numbers this time.

We can have a better get out the vote (GOTV) effort in November.
