AAS 5/22/08Lawmakers leery of fingerprint machines
Discussions about 'ghost voting' in House digresses into toilet talk.Discussions on limiting the tradition of Texas House members voting for absent colleagues digressed Wednesday into talk of pantyhose and petticoats and the potty practices of men and women.
Several members of the House Administration Committee appeared reluctant to embrace proposed voting machines activated by a fingerprint scan or to end the long-held practice of legislators voting for fellow lawmakers when they are away from their desks.

Rep. Debbie Riddle, a Tomball Republican who was prominent in last year's TV report, was not intimidated.
She questioned the cost and the need for the remote machines.
She noted that the House is notorious for taking quick votes, sometimes leaving voting open only 30 seconds or so. She suggested that women might have a difficult time getting out of a bathroom stall to vote at a machine.
"We've got pantyhose and petticoats to deal with," she said. "Are you looking at having one of these things in each stall?"
Debbie Riddle wears petticoats? :spray:
