Schieffer: No Regrets About Voting For Bush

Fort Worth lawyer Tom Schieffer, as expected, said Monday that he would start exploring a run for the Democratic nomination for governor. Schieffer held a rather low-key, but wide-ranging, press conference in the Speaker’s Committee Room, answering questions until reporters literally ran out of them.

A former appointee and business partner of Geoge W. Bush’s, Schieffer faced several questions about his ties to the former president. He said he voted for Bush for governor and president and doesn’t regret it,:puke: but also said he’s always remained a Democrat, voted in Texas Democratic primaries even while he was abroad and supported Democratic nominee Chris Bell in the last gubernatorial election.

Matt Angle might think he's found a candidate for governor, but I'm still looking.

3. "Will work well with Republicans"
No doubt the newspapers that endorse him will use that as the basis of the endorsement.

Hopefully we have all moved beyond Democrats who will work well with Republicans.

I know some Republicans who are tired of Republicans who work well with Republicans. Why would they vote for a Democrat who worked well with Republicans?

8. God I wish Molly Ivins were here...
She more than anyone else could tell you "why the hell not..."

I supported Kinky in 2006. Until I found the jokes were no longer funny simply because he started making jokes about the jokes.

I am being far more polite than I suspect Molly Ivins would be in a column but then she would probably also point out as I have pointed out that so far Kinky Friedman is the only candidate she would vote for which sums up the reality of the Texas Democratic Party which in 2006, in case everyone has forgotten, actually encouraged Kinky Friedman to run as a Democrat. Its only defense is that it did so before the jokes about the jokes.

Of course she would close her column by telling us to bang the pots and pans. And hope Leticia van de Putte heard us.
