I have a bachelors in Communication Studies and have worked in sales for two years but dont want to anymore. Me and the wife are moving out there when she finishes grad school as she has a job waiting already. I dont really even know what companies are in Dallas, or even what web site is best to look for a job. Any help would be greatly appreciated just want some advise on possible progressive companies in the DFW area.

AAFES is in southwest Dallas county. If you don't mind the structure, it's a secure employer.

You'll want to consider commute as a top priority.

3. Can you be more specific about the type of job...
you're looking for? You might look into an online subscription to the Dallas Business Journal. Its a weekly publication that is all about businesses, companies and it might give you some insight into companies that might be doing better or worse than others. Might give you some ideas too. I know that law firms, engineering and architectural firms are feeling the economic pains right now. I'm sure there are others as well.

4. You might consider UT Southwestern Medical Center
Not a "progressive" institution, I'll admit, but they still have a halfway-decent medical insurance deal. Plus, you just might find some fellow DUers working there. :hi:

6. WELCOME TO DALLAS!
Hello everyone,

I'm a new DU'er, and I just wanted to say that I'm happy to be here. Bamacrat, I hate to be a naysayer, but Dallas isn't a very progressive city (jmo). What field are you most interested in? We have Texas Instruments, but they used to have quite a few lay-offs. The mortgage business is still pretty good here, but there have been a few lay-offs in this area, also. My daughter was just hired on at Country Wide. There's always the federal government jobs that pay well. Try Texas Utility (TXU our energy provider), AT&T, Time Warner Cable, Medical City of Dallas (I think they have onsite child-care), Bank of America (great benefits), but they went through a very recent lay-off. HTH:)

11. Hi, Artie...
I agree that Dallas is blue "voting-wise", but in my experiences CORPORATE Dallas is still very much conservative, but maybe I just work for the wrong companies, LOL!

12. The Metroplex is huge, with major traffic problems.
Consider the part of the city where your wife will be working, and try to stay in that area if you can. Traffic in Dallas is nasty.

Fort Worth is more laid back and relaxed and the traffic isn't nearly so bad.

It takes about 2 hours to drive from the far east side of Dallas to the far West side of Fort Worth....on a weekend with no traffic.
