Texas Senate approves bill requiring voter ID at polls
by Terrence Stutz

>>>AUSTIN – Senate Republicans today pushed through a bill requiring Texans to show a photo ID – or two alternative pieces of identification – before voting.
Democrats shifted their efforts to derail the legislation to the House.

The voter ID measure was approved 19-12, with all Senate Republicans voting for it and all Democrats voting against the bill. A final vote will be required on Wednesday before the proposal is sent to the House.

While the outcome in the Senate was never in doubt after Republicans changed the chamber’s rules in January to ease passage of the legislation, Democrats tried a series of parliamentary maneuvers and objections to slow the proposal down last week and this week.

But Republicans were not to be denied after making voter ID one of their marquee issues of the session.

The bill is given a 50-50 chance in the House, which has 76 Republicans and 74 Democrats.>>>>

Good to see the 'pugs spending their time working to combat the epidemic of widespread voting fraud that's been sweeping the state. :eyes:

1. Well, let's hope some pugs can be lured from the dark side in the House.
I've noticed a pattern to this kind of thing - any issue where you have to understand the nuances to be on the right side, they jump all over in their simplistic way.

2. It is our only hope
What I find the most outrageous on the Senate side is that they set aside $2 million dollars of HAVA education voter funds to educate voters on photo ID.

And yet this bill has no "fiscal cost"! And that's only the start of the costs.

Using Help America Vote Act (HAVA) money to disenfranchise and suppress the votes is sickening. :grr:

Right up their alley of course. Just like the Rs used the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th amendment to disenfranchise Florida voters in 2000.

4. Just wrote my Rep.
This bill is clearly against poor minorities... who probably vote Dem. Repubs keep lowering the bar over and over again. Truly sad.
