We were both at hearings in Austin doing our part to make Texas better!

I'm especially thankful for the work you and Muse do John. Very important work. I really do think that bill has a very good shot at passing no matter now Betty Brown votes. It's a very good bill, and very much needed. A simple little bill to make sure that ethics fines are considered "personal use" and can not therefore be paid from campaign contributions. What logical person can argue with that?

I wish we had a million member team that could help us lobby. I understand that some people just don't have the time. And I really appreciate it when people come from far away to have their say at the Lege. I hope that the House and Senate members appreciate that citizens who take time do their part.

3. As a Candidate I used to be able to have a poll watcher

in the counting room, so why can't I have a bot in each one of the machines watching what is going on?

I am sure I can can design one that is noninvasive with open source code, if not maybe we could have a competition between the various State University Computer Science Departments to write one.

6. Open source software

I'm with you. We had a bill last session to make the SOS set standards for it so we could try it. Bill died in committee after the hearing. The machine vendors are so embedded with the elections officials they can't be touched in Texas. Our best chances are #1) The Feds have to mandate getting rid of paperless DREs or #2) The vendors have to go bankrupt.

Right now in this economic climate the later choice is actually looking better. I predict Diebold/Premier Systemes will be the first to declare bankruptcy. A couple of lawsuits pending and the admission of their unsuitable software certainly opens them up to more.
