Perry threatening to keep lawmakers in sessions throughout the summer
if he doesn't get his way.

http://blogs.chron.com/texaspolitics/archives/2009/03/perry_threateni.html

Gov. Rick Perry, in a private meeting hosted by a conservative group this morning, vowed to hang tough on the state budget, promising to call a special session this summer, if necessary, to keep spending to his liking.

"If it (the budget) grows unacceptably...I'll keep them (lawmakers) here all summer," one meeting attendee quoted the governor as saying.

The meeting was hosted by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.

So far, the major difference between the governor and many lawmakers is whether to accept $555 million in federal stimulus money for unemployment compensation, which Perry says the state should reject.

2. Repub lawmaker on whether goodhair gets his $ back "stay tuned"
Hope goodhair budgets accordingly...I'd say the odds of him getting his money back will dwindle with each day he keeps them in session.

 :applause:

"The real story tonight is that we all worked together, arm in arm, to pass a budget that we can all be proud of," Republican Rep. Jim Pitts, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, said after guiding the chamber through an unusually cordial 18-hour debate that ended with a vote around 4 a.m.

(snip)

In a slap to Gov. Rick Perry, lawmakers agreed to take more than $23 million out of his office budget and put it in mental-health services and counseling services for veterans. He’s left with about $900,000.

The money was slated to be spent on salaries, rent and travel expenses. The money is likely to be replaced as the budget moves along, but Pitts was noncommittal.

"This bill doesn’t go into effect until September, so you’ll have to wait and see," Pitts said. "Stay tuned."

4. Perry - you can kiss your ass goodbye
Tarrant reaction

"It’s the best budget we’ve seen in three sessions, but that’s only because Barack Obama came in and saved our bacon." — Rep. Lon Burnam, D-Fort Worth, who had not voted for a budget since Republicans took over the House in 2003 — until now.
