WolverineDG gets a big honor for her work!

Legal Aid attorneys honored by Local bar association

Also to be honored at the luncheon are Law Day chairs LB and DG

Both attorneys for Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid, were chosen because they volunteered their time last year to represent mothers from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints whose children had been taken away by the state.

When Texas authorities raided the church's West Texas compound in April 2008, LB and DG answered a call for attorneys to represent mothers who children had been taken into state custody.

DG, who is originally from McAllen, said the working conditions were horrible and state authorities made it difficult for the lawyers to meet with their clients.

(Names have been changed to protect the innocent, but the facts are true. I do solemnly swear. So help me dog!)

Texas DU join me in saluting WolverineDG for this recognition for going beyond the call of duty, against horrible odds to do what was right. Congratulations DG!

:patriot: Because every parent has a right to not have the government take their children away without very, very good reason to believe the children are in danger...even parents who live in ways we may completely disagree with.

Yes, we owe it to children to protect them as best we can. But if we let our government take them from their parents based on only hearsay, guesses and suspicions, we are no better than a police state. And any parent could lose access to his or her child tomorrow on the flimsiest of grounds.
