Police probe activist's death
I did not know this person, but he seemed like a caring person.

Friends said that just hours before he died, Zanin -- known as "Jonny Z" -- had organized a fundraiser for the group Food, Not Bombs at the New York Delicatessen in Carytown.

They believe the slightly built activist, who rode his bike wherever he went in Richmond, was heading across the bridge to his home in the 800 block of West 49th Street in South Richmond when he died.

"I would be 100 percent shocked if it was anything but foul play," said Kriss Wilson, owner of Superior Documents, for whom Zanin had worked for several years.

He left in December to help run the Bizarre Art Market on East Grace Street, near the Virginia Commonwealth University campus. Zanin was a VCU graduate. "He was one of the most giving people I've ever known," Wilson added. "He was very involved with feeding the homeless and charity work and had a great heart. He was full of life and compassion for other people."

I did not know this person, but he seemed like a wonderful person. RIP, Jonny Z.

1. Richmond is a violent place...
I know someone who plays in a band there who got shot in the arm a couple years ago - just walking down the street.

Too bad - FNB - a great org'z'n - has lost a very dedicated, caring activist.

The article said he was a drummer. Who did he play for?

4. Jonny Z was a relative
He was a wonderful caring person -- an amazing guy. He truly touched so many lives. Thank you for the post. According to the police it was a very odd accident but still an accident. There were over 700 people at his funeral and each had a story about how he had time to stop and connect with them. Someone made buttons for the funeral that said, "Be Like Jonny Z". If you want to know more about him you can google "Jonny Z". He was 26.
