LYNCHBURG
College Democrats at Liberty University are still hoping the campus administration will officially recognize their student organization.
Brian Diaz, the group's president, said Wednesday that the issue is still under negotiation. The group sent a proposal to school officials several days ago that included statements that the group wouldn't endorse any candidate and would explicitly state its opposition to abortion.
Last month, the Christian school founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell withdrew its official recognition of the club because it supported the Democratic Party's platform and candidates.
The administration proposed the group get rid of its sponsor, which Diaz said the group declined to do.
Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said the club and school still are working out changes to the club's constitution.
