Seattleites how high was your electric bill?
I just paid the electric bill for the two months of December and January. It was $250. This for a small 2-bedroom apartment: 2 bedrooms, one bath, one living/dining area, one kitchen. Heat is electric.

Is this normal?

1. Mine is usually between $40 and $60 for two months
Do you have Seattle City Light as your power company? Did you move into the apartment within that time period?

Either you had an awful lot of lights, heat and equipment running, or there was an error on your bill.

3. $90/month
2000 SF house. but we have a diesel fuel furnace.

i think it was actually cold for a change, so you had the electric heat working overtime. turn it down to 62 at night, 67 in the day.

4. we turn the heat off at night!
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 02:26 PM by oldtime dfl_er
and generally only heat one room (the living/dining area) anyway. We don't ever turn the heat on in the bedroom. We do, however, have a space heater in the bathroom, and I wonder if that's sucking electricity.

5. We just got a whopper bill today.
I'm embarrassed to even say what it was, but suffice to say it was the highest I've ever had since living in this house. However, during this cold snap I've been dealing with cancer and severe anemia and have been sooo cold I thought I was going to die, so we had the heat up higher than we probably should have. We were also a little lax with the lights.

But as of today (after seeing The Bill From Hell) we're going back to our previous Puritan ways. :yoiks:

6. You're entitled to indulge yourself
when you're sick. Don't begrudge yourself heat and light. There's no virtue in compounding misery. I hope your struggle is going well. If love and encouragement can help, I'm sending some along. Good luck.

7. Electric heat can run the bill up
Insulation makes a difference. Our current billing is $312 every two months, for electric heat, hot water, stove, washer and dryer. Living area is 1000 sq ft, over a partially insulated basement.

8. I'm afraid to open my GAS bill!
With the power outage in December, we had to have the gas fireplace going 24/7 for 5 days.. and even with that going it was 50 in the house. I'm afraid to open the bill!
