1. Washington Bus youth internship
Actually getting money depends on your income level, though.

http://washingtonbus.org/get-on-the-bus/summer-fellowship

Well, yes and no. The Washington Bus Summer Fellowship* is a ten-week political boot camp in Seattle. Bus Fellows spend a summer learning state-of-the-art campaign management, grassroots organizing, public policy formulation and leadership skills.

Once you're done, you'll be prepared for leadership positions in campaigns and political movements all across the state. Nunchucks of the mind, you could say.

Wait...Why?
Young people are left out of the political process. The average age of a Washingtonian is 36-years-old, but out of 147 state legislators, just 16 are under 40. The voice that's missing in Olympia is you.

Until now. The Washington Bus Summer Fellowship takes young people who see the need for change, equips them with the best political tools available, and injects them directly into the political arena.

What are we gonna do?
1. Democratize Democracy. The Washington Bus Summer Fellowship puts democracy back in the hands of "we the people". Fellows come from all corners of Washington and acquire the skills to become effective political leaders.

2. Immediate Impact. Fellows spend the summer designing and implementing field plans that directly support progressive causes in Washington. They select races they care about, making an immediate difference in their communities.

3. Leadership Development. The Washington Bus Summer Fellowship is jet fuel for young leaders. Fellows have the opportunity to meet and learn from leaders and experts from a vast network of organizations. In addition to trainings on public policy and organizing, Fellows gain hands-on experience by running events and managing volunteers.

What does it take to be a Washington Bus Fellow?
The eye of the tiger, the heart of a champion, and the courage to drive Washington state politics in a new direction.

Between 18 and 24 years old
A passion for civic engagement and a desire to learn about state and local politics
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Independent self-starter, with the initiative to achieve complex goals
Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work within a diverse team
Good sense of humor and forward-thinking values are a must

What is the time commitment?
The Washington Bus Summer Fellowship runs from June 20th to August 20th, 2010. Fellows must be able to participate in all nine weeks of the program. Fellows are expected to commit 50 hours per week. Yes, evenings and weekends.

Are Bus Fellows Paid?
There are need-based stipends available. Please request when applying.

Is housing available for Bus Fellows?
Fellows coming from outside the greater King County area may be eligible for homestays.

Sold?
Grab your application here (online) or here (printable).

4. Co-director of Seattle youth organization
Saying Goodbye to Jeremy Louzao, and Announcing an Open Co-Director Position

With mixed feelings of sadness and excitement, Seattle Young People's Project is announcing that Jeremy Louzao will be completing his long-planned transition out of the SYPP Co-Director position in early July (he's gonna be a teacher!), and that we are now hiring for a new Co-Director, to begin work June 27th.

Some Words From Jeremy:

“For the last 3 ½ years, SYPP's work and mission have been at the center of my life, and I think it would take some particularly strong poetry to express how deeply SYPP and its youth members have affected me. When I became a youth organizer at 14, my friends and I often imagined creating a place like SYPP, so the privilege of working as a Co-Director has been the fulfillment of a life's wish.

Although I'm very critical of how the non-profit industrial complex saps energy and initiative from social movements, I'm so proud of how seriously SYPP thinks about its mission, its relevance, and its relationship to the much bigger struggle for justice. From an insider perspective, I'm more convinced than ever of how important SYPP's local youth organizing and leadership development work is. I just wish we had even more community investment and capacity to better realize all the powerful strategies and ideas that we've generated.

That's why I'm going to continue into the future as a passionate supporter and donor. I hope that anyone who reads this will consider stepping up their support. Now is the time to take SYPP to the next level!”

Announcing the New Position

While we're really sad to see Jeremy go, we love SYPP's ability to evolve and change with new members and staff, and we're excited about finding an amazing new Co-Director to take his place! Could you be that Co-Director? Do you know someone who's perfect for the job?

You can access the job description on our web site. The due date for applications is May 20th. http://sypp.org/2011/04/26/2011-hiring/

Please feel free to share the job description link and spread the word about this position as far and wide as possible!

Thank you,
All of us at SYPP

Are you a professional campaigner-type who you think really gets VoteBuilder?

Job Posting – Client Services Representative

NGP VAN is the leading provider of campaign and organizing technology to Democrats, progressives, and non-partisan organizations, offering an integrated platform that combines the best fundraising, compliance, organizing, and new media products available.

We are a rapidly growing company that built the voter contact and volunteer management tools used by Obama for America in 2008, and we are now staffing up for the 2012 election. Beyond our work with the Obama campaign, nearly every State Democratic Party in the country distributes our VoteBuilder tools to Democrats up and down the ticket. We also provide organizing tools for organizations such as labor unions, environmental groups, pro-choice advocates, civil rights activists, and so on.

Position

We are looking for a Client Services representative to work on our VAN Support Team to assist our client system administrators; track reported problems or answer questions about system functionality; provide advanced training for eligible system users; and assist with front-end testing of new features and functionalities. Successful candidates must demonstrate:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Experience with an NGP VAN database on a political campaign, labor union or membership site;
• The ability to work in an agile, creative, quick-paced, and collaborative environment;
• Experience in customer relations or an equivalent field;

Beyond these requirements, experience with politics, labor unions, or non-profit organizations is highly valued.

We are particularly interested in expanding our West Coast presence, and encourage applications from people who would work remotely from their homes or from our Oakland office. Candidates will also be considered for our Boston office.

Compensation

The position offers compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications and will likely be between $35,000 and $50,000. NGP VAN prides itself on being a progressive and open-minded workplace; we have a fun and relaxed company culture, including blowing off steam on a softball field and enjoying periodic company retreats. We also have a strong benefits package that includes company-paid health care and dental insurance, a 401(k) plan, and casual Friday every day.

How to Apply

Resumes will be accepted until the position is filled. Send a resume and cover letter, along with salary requirements, to jstgeorge {at} ngpvan.com.

NGP VAN is an equal opportunity employer. We insure that discrimination does not occur against any employee or applicant on the basis of race, ethnicity, color, age, sex, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, disability, or any other classification that offends our liberal sensibilities.
