Wow! even the malls are closed!
I don't recall that ever happening before. The schools are closed and all of those students will have nowhere to go. They can come to my house and start shoveling. Yeah, who am I kidding? My own two are sound asleep, no shoveling going on here. Have another cuppa and maybe spend some time in the sewing room today. What's everyone else doing in our lovely winter wonderland? :hi:

1. husband's telecommuting today
The boss told all of them to work from home today. At some point, though, he'll have to tackle our 100 ft. driveway with the snowblower.

Time in the sewing room is on my schedule, too, after I get done reading the Super Tuesday postings here. I have a crock-pot full of bean soup and plenty of cocoa mix to keep us cozy.

:hi:

3. my husband is telecommuting too.
Unfortunately, he killed the snowblower last week. A nice young man just came to the door and said he would come back when the snow is finished for $40. Deal. We live on a corner lot with sidewalks and we have a driveway and the walk from the corner to the front porch for mail delivery. I think I'll pay him more. :hi:

2. I have a nice fire in the fireplace & a cup of cocoa.
Wisconsin winters aren't all bad! Love being cozy inside, watching the snow fall :) Think I will start packing for Florida- we leave this coming weekend.

5. I'm sitting at work right now...
...looking around for materials to make snowshoes from.

There's a couple of vent screens on the air conditioner filters that look promising...

6. We were going to shovel
But I looked out a little while ago and the snow was horizontal, so maybe not. Thank goodness dragonson is home, his class today was cancelled. We'll eventually get it done. Dragongentleman was supposed to pick up some people at the airport, but one flight was cancelled and the other diverted, so there's no immediate rush. Everybody stay safe.

8. I'm in Madison- about half the people didn't show up for work today
although whether someone showed up or not was unrelated to the distance. About 1pm somebody said the Dane County sheriff was advising everyone to get off the roads and get home because the plows could not keep up with the snow and the police could not keep up with the accidents. If you were stranded off the road, catch a ride home and leave your car.

So we all left and went out to the parking lot where there was at least a foot of snow, some of which had drifted to even higher, and people were having to dig their cars out. I was in a lucky spot so I did not have to dig at all, just brush the snow off the car - and follow out some of the four wheel drive people to the major road (Broadway). I guess there were semis turned over on the Beltline or I-90 which made some other ways impassable.

The hardest part was when I saw that my driveway had over a foot of snow in it and I couldn't just drive into that- so I had to figure out where to put the car, and then shovel out the driveway so that I could put the car in it... and its still snowing.

Its pretty though.

9. I had to go into work.
We have a project manager in town from Atlanta. He made it from the hotel and it wasn't too bad until just after 12. Then they shut down the whole office and made us all leave.

I finally left around 2 and made the 1.5 mile commute home. However, getting into my driveway/garage was a whole 'nother ball of wax. THAT took over 30 minutes. My house is conventiently positioned so that the snow drifts off of the roof into the driveway so it has drifts well into the "feet".

This is definitely a bad storm. Twenty-four hours into it and still a few hours to go. And I just heard that it's going to be accumulating more quickly now. <<<sigh>>> Winter sucks.

Hope the rest of you are safe n sound!!

:hi:

10. Hey you all which is worse? 18" of snow or flooding?
It is bad here in NE Indiana. Lots of roads closed in a couple counties due to flooding. Downtown Ft Wayne flooded. And a light dusting of snow where I am just on the north side of town. And they are showing closings for church services and other events on the crawler.

11. I'll take this over flooding, tornado, hurricane, mud slides, earthquake
This does not enter my house, nor does it destroy my house.

It is a hassle, and we're tired of it, but I haven't lost any possessions or cars or my home!

13. Fuck this shit.
Work was bad enough. My idiot boss screwed up some samples, so he leaves it to me to fix his problem while he skitattles out the door at noon to see the dentist. Sure enough, they're stored next to the patio which means I've got the cold air blowing against my body while I'm working. I finally finish at 5 and am the last office person to leave. So sure enough my car gets stuck in the parking lot and I have to go back in the factory to asked a couple of hourly guys who were kind enough to push me out. Then on my way home I get stuck two more times, luckily a good Samaritan helps me each time. Took me 1:40 to get home.

I've called in sick to work once in my life, tomorrow may be number two.

Fuck this shit.

15. Thanks for the hug!
Usually I'm the one telling people to quit whining, now here I am crying a river. The day after and my body is still beaten and my head is still kinda numb. But I'll make it through like everyone else.

16. Hey, that was some serious crap yesterday!
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 12:35 PM by fudge stripe cookays
Fargo and I were going to go out and frolic in the park and we had to come in because we couldn't SEE anything. It was blowing right into our eyes. I can only imagine what it must have been like to have to work in this crap yesterday.

Mailmen, I salute you! :patriot:
