What's the word on the street in Wisconsin?
Hey -

I hope it's ok to post this here instead of GD:P. I'm just wondering what most of you in Wisconsin are hearing from your friends/neighbors. Who are people planning on voting for in different parts of the state, how are the ads effecting people, etc? There haven't been any new polls released in a few days, and I am feeling anxious and want to know what's going on on the ground. Try not to make this a flame war, ok? Thanks!

1. Today it is "Look out!"
Horrid weather. Very very icey in the southeast of the state.

2. In Madison there is a pretty overwhelming Obama vote.
I suspect he will carry Madsion 65-35 or more. Dane County represents about 1 in 9 Democratic voters so it is important, but not definitive.

3. Obama
Before Edwards dropped out I would have said Clinton would have won WI. There were/are a lot of Edwards people here, but since he hasn't endorsed- it seems like most of them went to Obama. I was for Kucinich, now I will vote for Obama.

4. To the best of my memory we've never even had a flame war here in the WI folder
We're all terribly civilized you know. Based on my nonscientific methodology of reading signs, bumper stickers and so forth I think the Milwaukee/Waukesha Dems are going to go Obama.

14. Brett Favre might NOT be God...
Yikes!!!

Ducking. Covering.

BTW, does anybody have Favre/Driver '08 signs? There's somebody up in Green Bay selling.

You can buy them online at originalbeadlady.com -- but the shipping costs suck. If you're up that way, you can buy them in stores.

5. In previous elections, I always felt I didn't have a good grip on
what people in general were thinking because I spend most of my days on a college campus (professional student you might say). However, my big litmus test this time had been that my fundie in-laws, and two time bush voters are voting for Obama (not that they are a rep. sample either). So basically on both ends of the spectrum, it looks like Obama all the way.

15. Some of my repub "friends"
Are crossing over to vote for Hillary because they think McCain can beat her...

Did I mention that they are assholes?

Otherwise our coffee group of retired Dems is pretty much all for Obama....but then again, we're the "trouble-makers" according to our party leadership.

10. Personally
I will be voting for Hillary tomorrow. Here's my prediction for Wisconsin: Obama 55% to Hillary 41%. For the Republicans: McCain 65% to 29% Hucklebee. Oh yea and 3 guys from Mercer voting for Ron Paul.

25. I will be starting a seer/meduim business
next campaign season. I predicted 55 Obama to 41 Clinton and the official result was 58/41. So the official count for Obama was off.

His pessimistic number last Friday was by 10 points. His optimistic number was "closer to 20 points" and that's where it ended up. Can't hardly fit his fat head through the door this morning. :eyes:

The signs around Waukesha tell me it's Ron Paul country...

...Talking with my coworkers who are politically active, all of them are voting Obama.

13. Two items from the Founder's Day Gala...
The "Button Guy" (the vendor selling campaign buttons) was totally sold out of Obama buttons an hour before the event ended.

Afterward, outside the MAC, there were two vendors (probably the same guy just set up in two spots), one selling Obama t-shirts and the other selling Hillary t-shirts. There were a few people buying the Hillary's, but the Obama guys looked like they were giving away free beer.

So there you have it. Political analysis at least as astute as anything you'll get from Chris Matthews!

21. I live in East Madison
and there are a lot of black people in my neighborhood, well a lot for Madison which is less than 10-15% black. I went to vote between 8:30 and 9:00am and I was number 75 which is pretty high. It was about 4 degrees. There were 3 elderly blacks in there with assistance- people who had gone to a lot of trouble to get up and get dressed and have someone pick them up and take them out in the freezing cold and drive them over to the polling place and help them walk in to vote. One person had trouble walking and was blind.

I'm going to take a long shot and guess that they thought it was worth all the effort to vote for a well qualified black man running for president, a day they had waited for a whole lifetime.

It brought tears to my eyes.

24. I saw the same thing in 2004
I was checking polling places for Gwen Moore's campaign in the primary (which it was acknowledged would decide the winner in November) and saw so many older and disabled black people getting out to vote. Fortunately that was a very nice day in September.

22. Unscientific observation based on bumper stickers and talking to others:
Obama by a mile here. I'm in the Madison area.

One thing I am never going to understand is the people who cross party lines to vote for someone they think their candidate can beat. I always hear about Repukes doing this, but no one on this board seems to think that is important. I've never heard of a Dem doing it. Is this a Republican activity or something?
