We need help: Wisconsin ties to GOP audit scandal
The FBI is investigation the NRCC ( National Republican Congressional Committee) for forging it's official audit. They were apparently, running a money laundering operation within the national party, to use soft money as hard money, to pay official bills and expenses. The web has lots of this, but I gave a small summary at the end of this post.
The GOP is trying to spin this as an 'outsider', but in 1995 they made every employee an outsider, for just this kind of FBI investigation.

My question, and request is that we all take a close look at the PACs, this internal group has in Wisconsin?
Did Mark Green use the services? Senslessbrainer, Ryan or Petri? What connections does the WiscGOP have to this group...and maybe, and the biggest connection may come from the Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce gang?

So, since 1993...how much of the audit will fall on Wisconsin Republicans?
The people named, who ran the NRCC, are:

Christopher J. Ward, the 'outsider' who mastermined it all, unbenounced to all those innocent Republicans leaders who signed off on the official audit & expenses.
He runs a company for campaign accounting called, Political Compliance Services, Inc of Fairfax, Va. Time to check the finance databases for this one.

Donna Anderson
Who was replaced by Ward.

Keith Davis
The current head of the NRCC's accounting.

Susan Arceneaux
A close Bush friend, a Swift Boat employee. WHo knows what she was up to?

Rep. Tom Davis-VA
The name on the legal documents.

Rep. Tom Reynolds-NY
The other name on the legal documents.

My summary, from several sources and my own thoughts....

House Republicans were told in recent days that a former employee of their campaign committee may have forged an official audit during the contentious 2006 election cycle and that they should brace for the possibility that an unfolding investigation could uncover financial improprieties stretching back several years.

The former employee term, is how the National Republican Congressional Committee wants the person to be described as.
The problem for the NRCC, is that the truth shows the person, one Christopher J. Ward, has been the OFFICIAL NRCC auditor since 1993.

In 1995, the NRCC changed it's rules, as they could no longer pay NRCC employees with 'soft money'. So they let the staff, hold 'outside' jobs. Christopher J. Ward was employed by several PAC's, including the Swift Boaters, Tom Delay's illegal PAC and others. Ward was paid $230,000 directly from the Swift Boat PAC in 2004.

Several of the PACs and campaigns that Christopher J. Ward, worked for over the years, have decided to retire this year. Some made the decision before the FBI got involved, some afterwards.

Christopher J. Ward, was found to have made soft money into hard money in a 2000's election and the NRCC was fined $250,000 for a $500,000 transfer.

The problem, today, not only involves that crime, but goes back to when the Contract With America began the flourishing of such soft money PACs. These groups, of unlimited and unregulated, mainly corporate, money had to shift the books, after the McCain-Feingold Law went into effect in 2002.
The NRCC had to now, pay employess, rent offices and provide the FEC, a full accounting of expenses as hard money. Christopher J. Ward, was the OFFICIAL auditor for the NRCC, at that time of transistion, so they got creative and thought they would easily hide the transfers, within state PACs and campaigns.
Christopher J. Ward is accused of sending the FEC, the official NRCC audit.
A forged audit, which the top Republican leadership, in Congress had to sign off on, as valid and verified.
Dirty tricks, is not what this is all about.
Intentional money laundering is. The NRCC was running a sham funding scheme, akin only to a Colombian drug cartel or Capone's failed attempt to skirt IRS rules.

This is a major scandal within the Republican Party, not just the congressional committee, and the FBI investigation will result in many indictments, not only of Mr. Ward, but of the many who actively and intentionally participated in this crime.

Simply calling his an outside contractor, is not going to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. This time the Republicans went so far, over the line of ethical and legal limits.

Mr. Ward's company, the Political Compliance Services, Inc of Fairfax, Va has this intro that gives an indication of his intentions.
"...Our comprehensive approach to your individual accounting needs will deliver you from the headaches and legal ramifications of FEC non-compliance."

Thanks for looking and post your findings.

The best way to end political corruption is to poke it with a stick.

1. So...let me get this straight
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 01:02 PM by tanglefoot
Leaders of a million dollar (perhaps billion in this case) political organization "volunteered" their time to run the organization while they "worked" for and answered to PAC's and Lobbying organizations who could take unlimited soft money contributions.

Hmmmm.

2. I'm from Reynold's district in WNY
And have been reading about this on some of the NY blog sites. Maybe this should be posted in the General Discussion forum, too. This sounds like a story that is going to gain some traction as the investigation continues.

Here's a link to a press release by Jon Powers -- our Democratic candidate here in the 26th district -- posted by Robert Harding, a blogger with The Albany Project.

4. Wisconsin Republicans have abused our trust
By relying on the PACs to out spend the actual campaigns, as they did with the Supreme Court race in 2007.
Ziegler is unethical, she lied and she should be recalled, by the voters.

The companies that fund these PACs should be 'outed' and shamed, shunned and targeted.

We need to elect people to the state legislature whose first goal is the complete removal of any and all such groups.
The courts will not allow banishment outright, but nothing is stopping the state from full disclosure, full financial accountability and like all lobbies, increasing the annual registration fees, penalites to such high rates....they may consider, funding within finance rules to be more advatageous than this chrony payola scheme they currently operate behind.

Connecting the dots, is what the internet provides.
The internet has changed the game, and we are the ones who expose these corrupt groups and practices.

The GB Press gazette ran a big article on how the local businesses didn't win any of the Happy Business Awards this year, again.
The awards are given out by the WMC, a law firm for being good little loyalists.

5. Why has Annette Ziegler been allowed to stay, and why
has she not been recalled?
