Kathleen Dunn is back
She's been off WPR for a few weeks because of a heart attack and surgery, but she says she's easing back into work and it was really tough on her to be away during the primary coverage. (Her guest said she didn't miss much--Hillary Clinton is still the front runner, John McCain has no chance, etc. They had a good laugh about that.) I think she's the one worth listening to on that station, and it's great to hear her voice again.

1. I'm glad someone likes her...
I'd rather listen to Zorba giving potato soup recipes.

2. I am glad to hear that
When I am across the border, Dunn is the best one on the Ideas Network during the weekdays.

3. I prefer Kathleen
to Joy who does not live up to her name.

4. So true, it is much better to go to WPR Classical
and have their Morning Edition simulcast than to have Cardin on in the morning.

5. You mean Joy I-Don't-Want-to- Hear-Conspiracy-Theories Cardin?
She was (yet again) more than a little short with a caller today.

Did anyone else catch her segment with the Condoleeza Rice biographer who supports her for VP?

I got the impression the author didn't appreciate the Rice-bashing. Hah!

7. so she pulls the "lalalala i got my hands over my ears" thing often?
i'm not usually awake early enough to listen to her but caught her one morning telling a caller to "give me a break" when they mentioned the possibility of the official 9/11 story being in question...i couldn't believe how rude she was but i was glad to discover that i'm not missing anything in the mornings while i sleep soundly!

9. I heard that one, too.
And she actually did apologize for it on a following show.

Still, she's very short with callers who even try to mention that we might think of questioning what happened that day.

I can't figure her out.

6. Glad to hear she's OK
Kathleen's the second NPR host I like to listen to (the other being Tom Ashbrook of On Point) who's had a heart problem in the last six months.

I remember during the summers of my youth listening to Kathleen Dunn in the mornings when she was on WTMJ. To think they replaced her with that smarmy, spouse-cheating Charlie Sykes is very telling.

Admittedly, I have not listened to WPR much at all since I got engaged in listening to other forms of progressive radio, and haven't donated any money to them since they had John Gibson on a couple years ago discussing the "War on Christmas".

But Kathleen's show still garners a listen of mine a few times a month on the internet, and I'm glad she's back.

(And I'll take the Bryant Park Project on Sirius NPR or Bill Press over Joy Cardin any day)

8. She was wonderful on WTMJ!
Back in the day, WTMJ used to be well worth the listen. I loved Kathleen, and Gus' show, when he'd field political calls. He actually moderated discussion, and never belittled anyone's beliefs.

Charlie Sykes is a waste of space and valuable air time. :eyes:

Kathleen, get well soon!
