Edited on Wed May-28-08 08:54 PM by sybylla
Her alcohol-impaired head almost exploded from trying to decide between booting us out and taking our money.

ewag's still paying blackmail on the photos we took that night.

Fun as that was, I hope this year the atmosphere will be a little less conservative.

13. I am not so sure it will be less conservative in Stevens Point
Unfortunately (or fortunately I suppose) I have a family vacation that weekend.

Oh well. Maybe one day again we'll have a keynote speaker and a halfway decent convention that can build our party for future election cycles.

Of course I'm not the one in charge (if I were our party would be way bigger and more effective in all district races).

14. I'll miss seeing you - you've missed too many of these in a row.
Glad to hear, though, that things have turned around enough for you that a vacation is on the schedule. :toast:

15. I went to Appleton in '04, Oshkosh in '05 and Milwaukee in '03 and last year
Edited on Thu May-29-08 11:23 AM by MessiahRp
Just missed La Crosse in 2006 and Stevens Point this year. Usually my travel there is dependent on whether or not I can wrangle a place to stay and I live in Milwaukee and have family in the Appleton/Oshkosh area so I'm good there.

I'll miss seeing you as well. I should probably participate more in the local party politics but I'm one of those idealist people who have creative juices flowing and want to make impactful change right away and usually the old party bulls who have been there a long, long time are not as eager to do anything new or drastic.

In fact I think that "we've been doing it for so long our way that there's no reason to change" mentality sets in. A good friend of mine became a party chair and all of the change ideas sort of went out of the window. In fact he argued to me that the internet is not a solution and will never draw people to the polls when I suggested strengthening the value of our county party's website and using it to increase membership. I cited Howard Dean's success but apparently because he lost the meme is that they will visit the site but not show up to the polls.

I think though Mr. Obama is making my case for me. However I am no longer in that county to affect anything on that level. (Not to mention when I was there I asked for informational updates/direction for content on the site I did for them and never received any)

So maybe I'm too much a progressive dreamer with big ideas and at the local levels that sort of thinking takes an aside to business as usual. I'm generalizing of course since I have not attended every county party's meetings but when you go to the convention committee and offer up a bunch of ideas and are shot down instantly for the "Our convention is a state party meeting basically and nothing more" as what happened in 2005, it's pretty deflating.

16. Do come to the Milwaukee County Democrats meeting
Next one is on June 23 at 7 pm at the Pettit Center in the Hall of Fame Room (upstairs). I've been attending since 2001 and can honestly say that there is more going on there in the last couple of years than there ever was before. At least one other DUer is a regular, and it would be nice for us to get together. If you come, PM me beforehand so we can figure out how to identify each other. (That goes for any other DUers who may be there and we just don't know who you are.) The meetings are usually on the 4th Monday of the month (but not in August). One of the next projects will be staffing the State Fair booth, and of course gearing up for the election.
