Democratic Presidential Candidate Had Planned Rally Near State Capitol

UPDATED: 3:07 pm CDT October 20, 2008
MADISON, Wis. -- Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama is scuttling his plans to hold a large rally later this week in the shadow of the state Capitol, according to a source in the Madison City Parks Division.

An unnamed official with the Parks Division said that she received a call on Monday saying that a permit to hold the rally wasn't necessary and so city officials won't be issuing it, WISC-TV reported. The rally was set for noontime on Thursday at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Main Street on the Capitol grounds.

The U.S. senator from Illinois is leading his Republican rival, U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona, in two new statewide polls. In a Mason-Dixon/NBC survey of 625 likely voters taken Thursday and Friday, Obama leads McCain 51 percent to 39 percent. In a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee survey taken Oct. 8 through Oct. 15, Obama leads McCain, 51 percent to 36 percent.

Stay tuned to WISC-TV and Channel 3000 for continuing coverage.

1. I think we need to convince him that we're still a swing state
or that the post-election victory rally on Thursday, November 6 needs to be in Madison!

8. I hope that it's not terminal
It would be incredibly sad if she did not live to see her grandson elected president. I think he should be commended for making her a priority even at this critical point in the campaign. Of course, being that it looks like his going to soundly defeat McDubya it shouldn't make any difference in the final outcome.

9. His maternal grandmother
They must believe she's going to die or Obama wouldn't leave the campaign trail. This is so sad and will make it even more disgusting as the Palin/McCain ticket goes on their attack the next two weeks.

I don't know if he ever knew his dad's parents, it's been a while since I read his book.

6. And volunteer
Check with your local Obama headquarters about signing up and getting trained for GOTV. There are still many slots to fill for election day and the preceding weekend. :patriot:
