Harper vows to recover funds
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 11:59 PM by CHIMO
OTTAWA — Stephen Harper says his government-in-waiting welcomes key Gomery commission recommendations to limit prime ministerial powers and will take legal action to recover up to $50-million that is still missing from the advertising and sponsorships scandal.

"We have a responsibility to take all legal steps to recover that money," the Conservative leader told a news conference Wednesday just hours after the release of Justice John Gomery's final report on the advertising kickback scandal that contributed in part to the Liberal downfall in the recent election.

Mr. Harper, who will head a minority government when he is sworn in as Canada's 22nd prime minister Monday, said Judge Gomery had only limited powers to try to track down the money that went missing from the controversial program.

In some areas, Mr. Harper said, the Conservatives plan reforms that are even more sweeping than those recommended by the Gomery commission.

Looks like a witch hunt. Seems like it's a one tune PM coming up.

Kind of hard to nail Jello to the wall though.

Red Tories and the left Liberals will probably now be able to come together.

1. He'll take that $50 million, use it to give each Canadian $1.20
which they can apply towards university tuition if they want, and call it an education plan.

2. Who
Is he going to take it from?

The police haven't found that much fraud. So it seems like it will be a political move. Well who do you think it would be against?

Why I would venture that it's not going to be the Bloc nor the NDP.

So perhaps we might see the Liberals doing the same thing as the PC's. Just disappear and come up again as a new party.

3. Check into Mulroney's $300K from Karl Hienz Schrieber
While you're at it, Harper. People still want to know what he actually did for that pasta business.

8. With interest.
Which, alone, should cover the $50 million missing in the scandal.

5. If he's so keen on accountability he should talk to the ethic commissioner
about the Grewal affair. Apparently he dodged the ethics commissioner for a month and didn't answer any questions....the FRAUD!
