Emerson is UNBEEEE-LEEEEEV-ABLE!!!
This guy just said in a H. of C. scrum that he ran as a "non-partisan", in the election!!!

Is he serious???? No, I mean really. Is he serious???? I gotta know.
There's gotta be a hidden camera somewhere? Where's Alan Funt? This IS the Bizarro World isn't it? Up is down. Black is white. Day is night, and oh yeah, one more.....LEFT IS RIGHT!!!!!!!!

I am beyond outraged!!!!

1. Non-partisan???...He said "I'm going to be Stephen Harper's worst enemy,"
I wish one of the media people would point this out. It is really outrageous.

4. It has been pointed out on the radio today.
Either CKNW or CBC in Vancouver...possibly both.

2. Just heard Harper say "I've always been impressed with Mr. Emerson!"
Was that before or after you heard him say he would be your "worst enemy" Stevie boy?

3. Didn't he also say he always described himself as...
...a "small 'c' Liberal"?

No, that's not a misprint.

5. Yeah, he said that...

The guy has some serious cajones, I'll give him that. He is basically saying, "yeah, I ran as a Liberal, got elected as a Liberal in a riding where 82 percent of voters voted against the Conservatives, and now I'm immediately jumping ship to serve as a Conservative cabinet minister....ya gotta problem with that?"

This guy blows me away. So does Fortier. He was just on with Don Newman on Newsworld talking about the importance of having a Montreal-area Conservative sitting at the cabinet table. Important for WHOM?? If it was important for the voters, they would have elected a Conservative in the Montreal area. Which they didn't.

I need a stiff drink.

8. Well, he was a Socred deputy cab-minister.
They could be either federal Liberals or federal Conservatives, apparently it's not that much of a big deal either way.

6. This is my riding! I never thought it would become capital-C conservative.
Well, I'm sure glad I didn't follow some of the "advice", of the Liberals on this board to vote for him, for the sake of "stopping the Conservatives".

Seriously, it's been only two weeks. At least Belinda Stronach had reasons, David Emerson's reasons seem to be based on access to power, and the claim of being able to do it for "the good" of the riding, city and province. Nice, but the least he could do is sit as an independent, even if in Cabinet, and then run again to seek the approval of the constieunts. Of course, that won't happen, nonethless, it's really quite corny.

10. Naked ambition. Pure and simple.

This fucker should be recalled. If everyone did what he did, it would be total parliamentary chaos. In theory (perhaps in "fanciful, conspiracy theory", but in theory nonetheless) there appears to be nothing to stop every single elected MP in our parliament from doing what he did. Up until now, this crossing the floor thing wasn't taken to this extreme. But now it has. What Emerson has done is anti-democratic and a dangerous precedent.

14. I'da been
in the same boat too, dude, if I lived just a few blocks north.

I feel sorry for you guys--but I also fear the media spin.

The corp media keeps 'gauging' the 'reaction' by using the riding's folks as a strawmen for 'outrage' to then frame the sober opinions of their idiot pundits like Keith Baldry. The public all over seems genuinely outraged because it could just have easily happened to them.

Why fuckin' vote if it's gamed?

This might get big...even Tories are pissed off about it...someone in your riding was doing a 'streeter' bascially saying that--they like democracy more than Harper.

I feel your pain <--in a quivering Bill Clinton tone

16. I think this is a good example of the MP "knowing best"...
...of course, him, and his official punditry buddies like Norman Spector think this is just lovely. But of course they completely ignore the little things like democracy and decency. The words Ivory Tower come to mind, these people are so out of it, it isn't even funny!

The most blatant case of political opportunism I've ever seen. I hope the voters in Vancouver roast
his phony ass.

9. I don't think he'll run in the riding again in the same riding...
...it would be too much of an up-hill battle. It's possible, but I doubt it.

Perhaps he'll run, in the more "creme de la creme" riding of Vancouver Quadra. It was a solid Liberal win last time, but it could go Tory, with the right candidate. The "opinion makers" in the province like the man, so they'll do their best to help him. Or perhaps he'll run in "blue liberal" ridings like North Vancouver, Richmond or West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country. The man doesn't even live, nor from what I understand has ever lived, in Vancouver Kingsway, so carpetbagging isn't that big of a deal for him.

12. Does anyone here live in that riding?
What is the general sentiment over there? Because this basically means you guys had a choice between two Cons and an NDP, you just didn't know it until it was too late.

I hate turncoats.

15. I live in Vancouver Kingsway...
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 07:22 PM by V. Kid
...most people seem pissed off. The letters at the local CBC webpage, are more balanced then one would think they'd be. But CBC has a tendancy to do that, even when it's clear that 95% of the people are on one side of the issue. Heck, I didn't even vote for him. And even if he switched to the NDP, i'd still be annoyed. I mean seriously, it's been an entire two weeks. Pathetic.

17. Quite pathetic.
I heard him justifying himself this morning on the radio. SOB sounded like a self righteous Lib.

About the money that the Liberal organisation wants him to give back he said

"They have to ask themselves how much of that money would have gone to the Liberals if it wasn't for me"

Fuckin' arrogant bastard.
