Greens rejoice in neck-and-neck fights with NDP, Tories
OTTAWA —
...
Early results Monday indicated:

- In Toronto Centre, the Greens had 2,999 votes, were only 18 behind the NDP, and actually led the Conservatives by more than 300 votes. In the 2006 general election, they trailed the Conservatives by 13 percentage points and the NDP by 18 per cent.

- The Greens appeared likely to finish ahead of the NDP in Toronto's Willowdale riding, and were in third place with about 5.9 per cent of the popular vote. The NDP's support in the riding plummeted from the 2006 election — from 11.4 per cent to about 4.7 on Monday.

- While they were hurting the NDP in Toronto, the Greens appeared to be inflicting more damage on the Liberals in Vancouver Quadra. May's party gained about nine percentage points since the last general election, while the Liberals lost 12, the NDP lost one percentage point, and the Conservatives gained four.

- The Greens continued to be a non-factor in Saskatchewan's Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River riding, where they were a distant fourth with barely 3.2 per cent of the popular vote.

Interesting result. It is still hard to pin down where exactly the Green Party is on the political spectrum.
