So, I guess the Conservatives survived the Cadman bribery scandal.
Six stories referencing "Cadman" (none actually about the scandal, mind you) in the past week, according to Google News.

How lucky for the Conservatives that our media gives up so easily. Like a barking dog who doesn't know what to do once they've finally caught up to the car.

1. Pretty sad, really
All the cons had to do was to wait it out. Seems that for Canadian media, unless someone comes forward with slam-dunk evidence of actual criminal wrong-doing, well then, there just isn't a story there, is there. Quite pathetic really.

However, I think the issue isn't gone for good. The NDP has so far blocked any Parliamentary Committees from investigating the matter (because the issue does nothing to weaken the Liberals) but the Justice Committee may be able to take it on despite the NDP obstruction (since it is chaired by a conservative, who therefore can't vote unless there is a tie.)

This coming week will tell the tale.

2. This just in...
Look who's meeting!

A big ole ITQ welcome back to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights, which is apparently ready to come out of its chair-imposed time out just in time for April Fools Day.

This will be the first opportunity members have had to get together since early last month, when Conservative soon-to-be-ex-chair Art Hanger broke new ground in parliamentary passive aggressiveness by fleeing from the room on two separate occasions, all to avoid a vote on whether to overturn his ruling on a motion to investigate the Cadman Affair.

According to the official notice, the ostensible reason for Tuesday's meeting is to continue its study of a bill to combat identity theft. But since the Cadman motion - and the chair's ruling - is still on the table, and no vote has been taken, the committee will have to deal with it before any other business can begin. It's also all but certain that the Runaway Chair will be facing a non-confidence motion as well; one that he will almost certainly lose, which will trigger the election of a new, hopefully less skittish chair.

Meanwhile, even if the NDP backs the government and blocks the Cadman motion, the combined force of the Liberals and the Bloc Quebecois is enough to ensure that the investigation will go ahead. If it does, you can be sure that ITQ will be there, liveblogging madly.
