Police say missing Quebec political aide found dead
The body of a woman who worked for a Quebec cabinet minister has been found in the basement of an abandoned home in a small town northeast of Quebec City, police said on Sunday.

Nancy Michaud, 37, an assistant to Natural Resources Minister Claude Béchard, disappeared from her home in Rivère-Ouelle sometime between midnight and 1 a.m. ET on Friday, provincial police said.

Michaud's husband told police she was missing when he came home at about 2:30 a.m., investigators said. The couple's two children, ages six years and 18 months, were asleep in the home at the time.

On Saturday, police released footage from a bank security video showing a masked man identified by police as a suspect in the case — someone investigators believe forced Michaud into a car that was parked behind her house.

MONTREAL–Quebec provincial police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a political aide to a prominent provincial cabinet minister.

Acting on a tip, police found Nancy Michaud's body Sunday afternoon in the basement of an abandoned home just a few kilometres from her own residence in Riviere-Ouelle, a small town 140 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.

Police spokesman Claude Ross says a man in his 30s, who is also from Riviere-Ouelle, is being interrogated by investigators and may eventually be facing a murder charge, adding police believe there is only one suspect.

Michaud, 37, had been missing since early Friday morning when police believe she was violently abducted from her home in the small town of 1,200.
