OTTAWA — Julie Couillard did not steal secret diplomatic documents as suggested in a government report released last week, her lawyer said in an interview published yesterday.
As the opposition continued to lambaste the federal probe that produced the report as a "botched" undertaking, Ms. Couillard's lawyer dismissed allegations that she took documents belonging to former foreign affairs minister Maxime Bernier in April.
"It's very clear that she did not steal any documents. I'm categorical on that front," Jean-Claude Hébert said in an interview with a Montreal daily.
Mr. Hébert said he will lay out his case to the RCMP or in court only, but he said it will be based on more than Ms. Couillard's statements.
"There will be one person's point of view, but it will be supported by external, documented facts," he said.
