Nice piece from
my local newspaper today about Trevor Greene, the Canadian soldier who was wounded in an axe attack in Afghanistan a couple of years ago. He kind of fell off the news as happens with such things, but the last I heard he was considered a writeoff at best. I'm always impressed at the sorts of things people can survive, never mind start to recover from.
One thing in the article that caught my attention was his take on the kid who attacked him. I remember the most ridiculous bloodthirsty rantings in letters and news comments after the attack going on about how this proves the intrinsic evil of the Afghan people blah blah blah. This guy? He realized the attacker's motivations, figured he "had to forgive him to move on," and started doing both.
I'd like to think I could do that, but I dunno if I could.
