Canada will be first to rebound, PM says
BRAMPTON, ONT. — Prime Minister Stephen Harper predicts Canada will come out of a global recession faster and stronger than any other country.

But he warned that it won't happen until the U.S. financial sector is repaired.

In an appearance before the Brampton Board of Trade that his officials billed as a major speech, Mr. Harper outlined the government's plans for dealing with the slowdown and attempted to sow optimism amid deepening economic gloom.

“Canada was the last advanced country to fall into this recession. We will make sure its effects here are the least severe, and we will come out of this faster than anyone and stronger than ever,” Mr. Harper said Tuesday.

Bull shit.

Canada will emerge from slump faster, stronger: PM
Prime Minister Stephen Harper used his first major speech on the recession to urge the opposition to co-operate with his government, saying budgetary measures will help boost Canada's strong economic situation and help it emerge from the economic downturn faster than the rest of the world.

Half right.

We are a resource economy. We will only come out of this after our customers come out of it.
I don't have a post graduate degree in economics. I don't even have an undergraduate degree in economics. I have to question his understanding of markets.

He doesn't know what he's talking about.

At least the CBC headline got his comments correct. Forget about coming out stronger. The dollars will control the country. And right now they are being provided in multitudes by our master and former master.

1. I doubt this
Recovery from recessions seems more likely to emulate a queue than a stack.

2. I agree and disagree - sorta
.
.
.

I believe that no matter how bad the economy gets, we will handle/weather the "bad times" better than the USA

First of, we have a better, though far from perfect, support system(s) for our poor (social assistance, food banks, volunteers, etc.)

We can't get wiped out from health problems - no matter how poor we are/get.

Our health care is guaranteed at no or very little cost (transportation and the like is even subsidized).

We have lots of arable land to grow things, and lots of water and other natural resources.

Our budget isn't curtailed by outrageous military activities all over the Globe

AND

The World likes Canada . . .

sumthing to ponder

3. Perhaps
For some of your points.

But if we have no country left over after all the money sloshing around has bought everything up it won't matter how sound our system was.

What we don't see at the moment is all the dollars going where?

Are we about to be consumed in appreciation?

Just look at how our resource companies are stretched for funds.
