Canwest: PMO hires former White House spokesmen to plug Canada

WASHINGTON — The Conservative government has hired two former White House communications strategists as part of a "sustained" effort to raise Canada's profile in the U.S. media — with Prime Minister Stephen Harper acting as salesman-in-chief, Canwest News Service has learned.

The Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday said it had retained Mike McCurry, a former press secretary to Bill Clinton, and Ari Fleischer, who held the same job during George W. Bush's first term, on temporary contracts to help Harper land interviews with leading American television networks and newspapers.

"Canada has a very good story to tell, and it won't tell itself," said Kory Teneycke, Harper's spokesman.

"The person best-positioned to tell that story in the (American) media is the prime minister."

1. Remember how Harper (before he was P.M) bad mouthed

the Canadian system to American right-wing groups? I may sound paranoid, but I can't help but think that everything that snake Harper does, is with the goal of making Canada weaker and ready for the taking if he can convince the USA to take us over.
Mike McCurry I believe is honourable, but Ari Fleischer? He's a real snake in the grass!

P.S....I guess what I'm saying is that I have NEVER believed that Stephen Harper cares about this country. His being P.M. is just a means to an end. He seems to have contempt for most of what we stand for.

harper is the latter.

Mike McCurry, a big cheerleader for letting the market ie telecoms, etc, control the net instead of having net neutrality. He may have worked for Clinton and the Democrats but it doesn't mean he isn't a corporation-loving asshole and both the left and the right in the US know it. The right won't listen to him because of the "Clinton" connection and the left won't because he has become a corporatist sycophant.
