Did my wife just become Canadian?
Regarding Canada's new Citizenship Act. We're a bit confused if she is covered.

Canada Issues a Wake-Up Call: You May Be a Citizen

New citizenship rules:

Her mother was born in Canada and later moved to the United States, married a U.S. citizen and gave birth to my future wife in 1957. After my wife was born, her mother became a naturalized U.S. citizen.

Under the new law, can my wife re-claim Canadian citizenship? What would she need to prove it?

1. Dunno. It's a brand new policy.
Maybe this will help

Citizenship law kicks in, aiding `Lost Canadians'

Wilkinson is gaining citizenship by virtue of his Saskatchewan-born father, who moved to the United States in the 1960s and became an American, losing his Canadian passport in the process.

When Bill C-37, an amendment to the Citizenship Act, takes the full force of law today, the elder Wilkinson will join thousands of so-called "lost Canadians" who automatically have their citizenship restored.

2. I have no idea, but maybe this article from the CBC might help.

3. I'm in the same situation as your wife, ThoughtCriminal
I was born in '54 in the US to a Canadian citizen (Dad) and an American (Mom). Dad became a US citizen in 57. My sister and I are looking into it.

Part of me is really pleased, because Dad would be pleased about it. The other part of me feels strange because I've just been claimed by another country. How weird is that?
