Changing everything can’t look the same for Liberals
Of the roughly 4,000 columns (give or take) that have been written in the last 10 days on where the Liberal Party of Canada goes from here, John Ibbitson's in today's Globe is one of the best.

In it he proposes a radical change for the Liberal Party – an open primary system to choose our next leader. Every Canadian could have a say. As he writes, there is no doubt it would change the party in profound ways.

Think that's a bridge too far? At the very least, the Liberals should be making two related changes, in my very humble opinion:

1. When do Liberal MPs who lost the election officially cease to serve as representatives ...
and when do MPs who replace them begin to serve as representatives? Is there any overlap? Is it known in advance at what day and time the transition will occur, or just on what day the transition will occur, or just in what week or month the transition will occur?

What happens to files of Liberal MPs who lost the election? Is there at least one official copy that is under bureaucratic control and subject to privacy and access to information legislation, or are all copies under political control?
