I spent years telling people it was a miracle that Alf Roberts survived that fall from the multistory Car Park to go on to run a corner shop with Audrey in Wetherfield.

3. 'Fraid so, Feds.

Those irresponsible swabs at Gateshead Council have decided that the town needs a proper High Street with shops and a cinema instead of an unused multi-storey car-park, a concrete market hall and a square of scrubgrass for the delectation of winos and truants. Bloody Labour!!!

A nice touch was that the Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle's Arthouse, which has been installed temporarily in Gateshead's neighbouring Old Town Hall showed "Get Carter" as its last movie there - so there was a chance to watch it LITERALLY in the shadow of the icon before it bit the dust. A fitting ending!
