Documents 'suggest MPs were tailed'
A lawyer representing phone hacking victims says he has seen
documents suggesting that News International placed politicians under
surveillance.

Mark Lewis, who was himself tailed by a private detective hired by the media company, said Labour MP and hacking campaigner Tom Watson was among those named in a report he was given by police.

Mr Lewis told Victoria Derbyshire on BBC Radio 5 Live that he planned to bring a civil claim for breach of privacy against News International, former publishers of the News of the World.

The solicitor said documents suggested that the move to place politicians under surveillance was ordered "by someone at News International".

Got my fingers crossed, eyes to heaven, softly chanting "Brooks, Brooks, Brooks..."

1. I loved the "discussion" between Steve Coogan,
Greg Dyke and Paul McMullen on Newsnight a few months ago. Steve interrupted McMullan (when he was blethering on about nothing) to say "I'm sorry, I didn't realise you were on a moral crusade" when McMullan offered his pathetic rationale that the NoW sometimes did some good.

I would have loved if Steve had continued with...

"OK, here's another moral crusade - and definitely much more in the public interest than what you've done so far - how about a name and shame about bent coppers who take money from journalists?"

"And here's another - how about a name and shame about bent journalists who pay them?"

Brooks would definitely be on my wish list, but a couple of generations of Murdochs would be even better.

Postscript: the body language of McMullan during that show should be required study for behaviorists for generations.

Second postscript: no criticism of Steve C implied.
