Police in City see occupiers as 'terror' risk

The City of London Police force was facing criticism last night after including the Occupy London demonstration in a letter warning businesses about potential terrorist threats.

The letter, a "Terrorism/Extremism Update", lists al-Qa'ida, the Colombian dissidents Farc, and Belarusian terrorists who bombed the Minsk underground. It also lists Occupy London under the heading "Domestic".

It states: "It is likely that activists aspire to identify other locations to occupy, especially those they identify with capitalism. City of London Police has received a number of hostile reconnaissance reports concerning individuals who would fit the anti-capitalist profile. All are asked to be vigilant regarding suspected reconnaissance, particularly around empty buildings."

A police source said the letter was authentic but was poorly worded and never meant to imply demonstrators posed a terrorist threat.

That's complete balls from the police - the letter is clearly about terrorism, and lists FARC killing captives in Colombia, Al Qaeda activity in Pakistan, convictions for bomb attacks in Belarus - and then the Occupy movement, ordering businesses to report 'suspected hostile reconnaissance' immediately, as if it's a crime. Oh, just to add in other completely innocent groups, it mentions there's an electricians' strike against Balfour Beatty on 7th Dec, and a climate protest. Jeez, even the Conservative government pays lip service to climate change concerns.

The City of London Police really are owned lock, stock and barrel by the financial corporations. Strikers are not 'extremists', let alone terrorists. How about we flood them with reports of suspicious climate change activism in Downing St and Whitehall? And in the City of London boardrooms anxious to look green?
